Rob, I agree completely with what your reasoning is!

Grandpa's moonshine probably never lasted long enough to be handed down to someone!

Default Just because soetsu yanagi says so

doesnt necessarily make it so. If he truly believed in what he said, you would not know his name.
It is true though that most of us sign it for our own ego but if you meet true artists you will find that they will never sign anything they dont feel is up to their standards. In most cases, they will actually destroy it. They are going for name recognition just like any other product on the market. And for the famous, including the locally famous, their signature actually does increase the value. For the unknowns, the signature means nothing.
A also agree with Rocklobster ..." do that because I hope my stuff will stay somewhere in the family for a long time. I know that if I had something that had been in the family for years, it would be cool to unexpectedly find grandfather's name and the date he made it on there somewhere."

I just signed one for the same reason and intend to sign everything else I do.

I used a pencil then went over it with a Dremel. Then I rubbed some dark stain into it and wiped it off. It looks burned so what the heck?

What's wrong with ego?

Default There is nothing wrong with ego.

I never implied there was.
I sign most of my work and I am neither an artist nor famous......just ego.
