Do I have to remove.... - Woodworking Talk

Just got my new table saw a Grizzly g1023. The manual mentions that the rust proof coating needs to be removed and that some parts will have to be removed to facilitate this. I didn't remove any parts to clean the saw up. After cutting a few pieces of wood, I noticed that all the parts inside the cabinet, like the big screw where the motor tilts, is covered in grease with saw dust. Is this normal or should I have removed all the oil before using? Thanks

I didn't, and haven't had any problems...but others may have differing opinions. It would probably be a good idea to remove the cosmoline like substance when at all possible, but at least saw dust isn't really abrasive. If you notice the tilt and elevation srcews getting "tight", you will know what to look for.

So the coating on those screws isn't some sort of grease? If I do remove it, what kind of grease should I use for those screws? Thanks.

I don't know what lubricant it calls for, but I keep a can of sewing machine oil....just for stuff like that. I rag soaked in diesel or kerosene will remove the cosmoline.
