I was looking at the Metabo web site and all three of their die grinders list a collet size of 1/4". Perhaps someone just did a quick metric round-off to 6mm for your tool.

I agree with what someone said above - that carbide burrs for aluminum are quite coarse compared to their iron cutting counterparts. I have a few I use for cylinder head port work. I never tried them on wood but they'd be worth a try. Here's a link to a picture of a typical one: http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/p-90...tar-65138.aspx

It is possible that the rasps you are using are too coarse to use on oak. A finer cutter might be more effective. Most of my carving is in cedar, and some fir, so I am not working in hard woods as you are.

That seems to be the case. I get this bouncing effect when I try to use them no matter what the speed. I tried using a dedicated "metal" burr and it hasn't got enough of a bite (so to speak). It needs to be in between. I would like to try this but the cost seems a bit high:

These seem to bit a bit more like the burrs I use with my dremel just on a larger scale .... they come in either 1/4 inch or 6mm so I know they will fit my die grinder .... just expensive
