Default cutting angles

I have a friend some time ago who got a turned bowl as a gift. It was 8 pie shape woods pieces clued together. Then the bowl was turned.

I saw a website to figure out the angles for cutting pieces for a great
fit.

Anyone know of such site to assist in angles?

Default Near as I can tell it's simple math

360 degrees divided by 8 pieces = 45 degrees on each piece. They must be cut very accurately, since 1/2 a degree + or - will throw the whole thing off. Now that you know the angle, the next part is how to cut the pieces. What saw? Table saw, miter saw? How thick are the pieces? Raises other questions....yes? bill

So if you want to do a 7 set you using a 51.42 angle correct.

I was looking at the Wixey digital Protractor to purchase. Any feedback on this tool?

So what saw would you suggest to do this?

Default Segmented bowl

I would suggest posting this question on the woodturners topic and ask how others have done this. My thought is to cut a block into 4 pieces, reaaarange the piece for best grain pattern glue it back together and then cut it again on the diagonals so that you're not trying to glue small wedge shaped pieces together. This only works for an 8 piece segmented bowl. You're on your own for 7 pieces. But I've never done this, so I'm passing the buck to the turners. bill

No comment on that one specifically, but I had looked at the Bosch version and decided against it because it is only accurate to .x degrees, which gives you almost an entire tenth of a degree of error each time.

Wixey seems ok. I do own one EXTREMELY important to "zero" it b4 using to set an angle. I have very precision triangles from Woodpecker and I have checked its 90 and 45 readings and it is right on. I can only presume ( ouch no other way to say ) WILL NEVER ASSUME :}:}:} that is will be accurate thru out its range.

360 degrees divided by 8 = 45 degrees. Then you have to divide the 45 by 2 which requires each side to be cut 22-1/2 degrees to make the 45 degree turn.
