Default Birdhouses/Birdfeeders anyone?????

I was just wondering how many of you make birdhouses and feeders? I done a search but didn't find alot of pics.Looks like most build more fancy furniture. I'm more of a craft person myself. I build whatever strikes my fancy. It seems like I keep comming back to the birds. You don't really need alot of tools and you don't need fancy wood.If you have a good imagination you can create alot of different types and styles. I finished one today and I'll try to post a picture tomorrow.Let's see what you have?

Hey Donny! I've only recently set up a real woodworking shop in my garage, but I've always been interested in making things with wood or whatever materials are handy. I actually keep coming back to bird feeders and bird houses, too. One reason is that I can make them out of just about anything and they dont' have to be perfect. One of my latest projects has been making bird feeders out of a vinyl fence that I removed from my yard.

These are thistle feeders and the finches, chickadees, and titmouse (titmice??) love them. I've actually modified them since I took these pictures. I removed the two upper perches and made wooden platforms for the upper two feeder holes. The finches seem to prefer scooping the feed out onto the platform and picking the best seeds out of a pile.

As far as I can tell, the birds don't care what the feeders / houses look like. They seem happy to have just about anything we give them! :P

Default bird house

I have built a few and will someday build many more. I just build them from an idea in my head. This one the wasp has taken over.

Birdhouses are fun. I get carried away with mine. I'm not sure wether I am building them for birds or just like building a small house. I am still trying to figure out how to download a pic with a reply. Its in my picture album if you want to check it out. Dean Miller

Dean,
Do you make the shingles for your house or buy them like that? It looks like it would take a while to put on too. Nice work.

I like making bird feeders and houses. I usually place them outside my shop window because I like to look out the window and see the birds at the feeders. My children always like to see the birds nesting in the houses. Here are a few pics of a feeder from my backyard. I'm trying to think of a way to build a squirrel proof feeder. I'm hoping some of you will post some photo of that. Mine locks with a wooden key type mechanism that prevents the squirrels from opening the lid.

sorry Donny, I just saw your question. When posting a response, there are a bunch of icons at the top of the message window. One of them looks like a paperclip. If you click that icon, it will allow you to attach a photo by managing your attachments. You can click the browse button to choose the photo that you want from your computer (up to 4 photos) and then, when you are done selecting, click the upload button at the far right of the screen. If you are not sure how they will look on the thread, click preview post. Hopefully this helps.

Bookemdano,

How did you get your pics on the thread? I've tried everything I can think of with no luck.

After you click the browse button, and you highlight (by clicking) the photo that you want, you have to click the open button. From there, you will see the name of the photo appear in one of the four windows. (if your manage attachment screen is not maximized, then maximize it) After you have you attachment opened in the management screen, and the screen is maximized, you will see on the far right hand side, there is a button which says upload. Click that. It may take a few minutes. When it is done, the uploaded photos will appear at a lower section of the screen. You can then close that window and your response should have your photos on it.

Default Nice work guys.

I have no place to put bird houses or I would. The birds that I have around me are too large and create quite a mess. I live on a sailboat. LOL.

This is some of my stuff I have made lately. Hopefully it works. My wife figured it out for me. All of these are made from recycled wood I found.

Kenbo,

Thanks for the help. What I was doing wrong was when I got to the browse part I didn't have it at full page size and I didn't see the upload pictures part. I know now and I have also added some pics to my album.
