I would suggest NOT to use your teeth or fingernails.

For the majority, use a TS or a BS, for the remaining, a handplane, chisel, or a scraper.

The bark is a dead protective layer (it is trick to get it to stay on when drying wood,different shrinkage rates) Not usually bonded to the sapwood. Is that maple ? You should be able to stick a chisel under one end (try both) and it will peel off as easy as a banana skin.

Live edge can be bark intact, not feasible for anything that will have contact...I know your m.o. Bark off you still have a pretty live edge, the sapwood can have very interesting characteristics that the bark hides. The sap is the "living" part of the the tree, preserving that is cool.
You can steam the bark off. A tea pot and bare hands with some patience will do that.

I used my best Jedi mind tricks on it and it STILL won't budge!!!

Of COARSE I tried a chisel but that stuff is ON there. Just thought someone might have an old voodoo trick or something. Oh well, guess I gotta keep pryin' at it.
