As the technology of woodworking increases, we get many specific questions that are now lumped into the General Woodworking category. To make the site more user friendly, maybe we could have more catagories for subjects like:
Dust Collection, mobile, overhead, cyclones, tips
Saw blades, table, miter, bandsaw
Starting Out in Woodworking,
Table saws, fences, blades, and tips.
Jointers
Planers
Or at least break the power tool and machinery section into more.... bill

I would vote against it. Not that it was a bad idea, but it shows you're thinkin', and I like that. I'm just a simple guy and like simple things.

Not me I definitely don't want or like that kind of change.

Plus I'm a disabled Marine I'm already waiting in line for health care. Matter a fact the VA hospital called me the other day. They wanted to schedule me for a test in Little Rock Arkansas.

That's a 746 mile round trip for a medical test.

Hey WNT,
I don't really care either way. I usually visit this site every day and just click on 'Today's posts' under quick links. That way I get all the new posts no matter what category they are in. Most of the time I don't evey look at the category. Just my .02

Default Never PO a Marine

That's more like it guy! Say what you mean, Mean what you say.
The men who have served our country like yourself should go to the front of the "line" and there shouldn't even be a damn line for you guys. But like I said it's too late now. The sheeple have spoken. bill

You know I'm on here everyday as well, but we get one timers or folks who aren't up to the same speed as us who could probably find some advice on their question more directly, thats all. Take table saw blades, about every week we get the same question: What's the best blade? or what do you think of brand x blade, or my blade drifts, or how many teeth should I use to cut Paduk or wet cedar? you know they could all be lumped into a topic Saw Blades. bill

That is exactly the way I visit, except that I usually visit more than once per day.

I guess that categories would only have meaning to me if I was trying to research some subject.

I must have overlooked that "New Post" tab. I think I will try that and see how I like it.

Cabinetman - Frankly all this "thinking" going on scares the snot out of me!

Bill - Based on the fact that people don't always post in the most logical category (ie: tool questions frequently land in the "Tool Review" section instead of General WWing or Power Tools sections), I'd guess that adding even more specific categories would result in an increase of misplaced posts. Like Mike, I tend to hit the "New Posts" button, so it doesn't much matter to me.

I like the idea of using "stickies" for some particularly good discussions, and/or frequently asked questions though.

I too do not really rely on the Subject title. I hit the "new post" or search "all" if I am looking for something particular that may be older.

Now that you mentioned it, do ya think Bill could be dangerous with too much of it?

Default Absolutely a hazard, read this:

On the miter saw, a 22 1/2 degree cut is 22 1/2 degrees, off the 90 degree setting in the middle. When doing trim work, that is the perspective I usually think in. I have never thought of the 22 1/2 cut being a 67 1/2 cut, although it is both. As long as one knows there basic geometry like you stated above, they should be able to figure it out. When I stick my protractor into a corner, I am thinking in a perfect world, it should be 90 degrees. If it is 89, then I know I am going to cut at half that, or 44.5. Again, my mind is thinking in terms of the miter saw because that is the way it is marked. Uh Oh, now I am thinking too much. Good food for thought though,

You're not the only Mike that is worried! Lock up your sharp tools and calculators, I think, so I am! bill
