If I am understanding the question...someone wants to be your friend
If you go to your profile there is visitor messages, about me, contact info...friends list. Some people have several friends. It alerts them when you post a project or something, so people can keep up on what their buddies are up to. (I'm pretty sure that's the purpose...I don't know I don't have any friends )
You can either allow or deny the request.
