Default How to copy and paste from another site?

Sometimes I want to copy a photo or machine description from another site and when I paste it into my reply it shows up, BUT when it goes to the final post, there's only a box with a red X inside. What causes this and is there a way to prevent it. Is it our site that causes this? I don't have this problem with the Grizzly site, just certain ones. Cabinetman had this issue but "fixed" it somehow? bill

The red x means you didn't upload the image. When you grab a whole page or half a page etc. the image/s have to be uploaded to the site just like in any post. When you copy and paste, the software sees that an image is supposed to be there, but it doesn't have the image code (the pixels and all that jazz) so it just throws you a bone and says "Here ya go cousin, have a red x. Come see me when ya got somethig I can work with."

All ya gotta do is right click the image, select "save image as" and then save it to your desktop or wherever you save images. Then upload it using the Manage Attachments etc.

I have a folder in my desktop image briefcase titled "Temporary Pictures" that I save to when I yoink images online, and once I have them posted to the forum I remove from the temp folder.

I found some forums are proprietary with images posted for viewing. I can't say for sure, but for some it may be a "members only" thing. Instead of just doing a "copy/paste" try right clicking on the image and then left click on "properties" in the drop down menu.

A window will show the image URL. Highlight it, and right click, and left click "copy". Then, in your post, where you want the image (at the pulsating vertical line), right click to bring up the window, and left click on "paste".

Bill...the way I fixed it was to remand the image to "My Pictures", and uploaded it to a hosting site, and then reposted the image URL from the hosting site. I never gave you a "Top Secret Clearance".

Default And I never called you an "oldschoolphart"

We didn't have this conversation, there are no witnesses still living, and the internet is really a safe place to talk about secrets.
Thanks for the tip. I had to print it out, so's I can keep track of the method, until I "get it". I do know how to highlight and print "selection" only. I'm amazed at the computer skills some of our guys have. And Sketch-up, woah! Wish I could do some of that stuff, my posts would be even longer!! bill

Cabinetman I stand to be corrected but doesn't the method you're describing simply make a link to the url of the image? We discourage (technically we do not allow it) that and request that members upload the photo to the forum server.

There are some situations where that rule gets bent of course. Like when the image can't be copied but you want to share it and so you have to use a link, but the norm is we want all images uploaded to WWT ~ photobucket and the like are no exceptions we discourage that too.

I might not be understanding what cab'man is saying woody, but I didn't want you to start using photobucket and the like and have to relearn your bad ways.

Default Tex, Photobucket?

All my buckets have wood scraps, chains, ropes, nuts and bolts, etc nary a photo in the lot. So, don't worry I won't go there. BTW how is it you know so much about the 350 small block BBQ. Your friend has it? Now you want one too? I know how that works! bill
Just had a thought! How about an big ol diesel engine, nix the engine stand, go for off road 4 wheel drive version. Don't forget to plate it. TDOT will like it!
What "bad" ways?
