Default Book threads

There are lots of posts where members recommend this book or that one for various topics. But after a while, it is hard to find the thread.

Is there a bulletin board utility that would allow members to post book suggestions within different categories, where the categories are indexed (not just a long list of threads)?

This might be helpful, especially if members can add comments for each book.

Just a thought.

Sounds like a good idea "recommended reading" or "books of interest". I am just in for a minute (to warm up...it is 12 degrees out at 2 in the afternoon ) I will look into it later, unless someone beats me to it.

How about someone just starts a books thread and we can stick it (meaning make it stay at the top of the list) if it goes over well and we get a lot of responses.

Does that work?

I did start a book/mag review sticky thread not quite a year ago, but I guess at that time there were too few members. Maybe it's a good idea again maybe not.

Can't hurt to try you can always unstick it. The thread still exist but I unstuck it for lack of participation. Maybe take a poll of members like I did with the Tool Review idea to gauge willingness to support it. The Tool Review section was successful IMO parlty because we did take a poll and got some commitments from members to participate.

Just my 2 coppers.

Another idea - If there was a separate category (not just one stuck thread), then each thread in that category could be dedicated to one topic (such as woodturning books, finishing books, table saw books, etc). But maybe that would be overkill for the amount of participation.

I was just looking for a slick way to organize the knowledge base (in this case books) that is hidden in many threads.

i think a 'wood literature' catagory would be worthwhile. i'm reading a book on setting up a shop that i'd be willing to review. i've been considering a thread on magazines ppl subscribe to since i'm interested in subscribing to something for ideas, knowledge, etc. but there are so many magazines out there, just picking up a couple at the local bookstore doesn't cover them all. and even then, one issue may look great or really bad when in reality the typical issue is the complete opposite...

I started a thread in "General woodworking". We will see how it works. If it flops, or gets spammed too much, we will have to change it.
