Default What are your other hobbies

Hello All

I have become curious as to what rabid woodworkers do for their other pursuits. One of my problems is that I am interested in too many other things:
Gardening, fishing, camping, woodworking, carving, rustic furniture, beer and wine making [and consumption thereof], woodturning, furniture building, and generally goofing off.
Is this a common problem? What do all of you like to do besides woodworking?

Best regards

Gerry

When I have time (which hasn't been a lot lately), I like going to the gun range, and go bicycling. Sometimes LOML joins me.

Fishing, I went for awhile yesterday (did not do any good, but it was a nice day to walk the river)
Hiking, camping. General outside stuff whenever weather permits.

The wife and I are both big into fly fishing and camping.

My oldest (28) and I Captain opposing paintball teams, young punks against the old pharts. The OF's claimed victory this year.

The boy and I are also into guns and reloading.

Cooking is one of my other hobbies along with recording, playing music, fishing and all sorts of other stuff....cooking gives me the most instant satisfaction

Had all the intentions of making 2 pizzas today...decided to do something different
First crust

The sauce

Some sausage

Some pepperoni and jalapeno peppers

About a pound of cheddar and mozzarella

The second crust

Finished product

Here's a slice

I have 20 acres that I am working on to build a new home, then will come the vineyard start. I mill, and need to build a kiln....if time permitted, I would have more interests. Sounds dull now......but when my body would take it, I still dirt track raced, I am also a pilot, have skydived.....waterskiing....you name the poison, I was all for it. Being in construction takes most of my time, but...I did sweep the shop yesterday, and I think this evening, I will start the hobby horses for the grandsons.

Seems my Business takes most of my time in fact I would half to say its sort of a hobby to especially doing estimates and plans but rving would be my next big hobby now that I have a real Motorhome and of course woodworking and home improvement forums. One of these days I might actually start fishing, I have lived surrounded by water my whole life and I think I have gone fishing maybe twice ( Don't figure)

My "hobby" lately seems to be trying to get my cheap-ass tools to act like their big brothers. Current obsession: PERFECT, I mean P-E-R-F-E-C-T 90's.
Bigger task than I thought. I settled fer "close" a long time ago but now is the time to stop "fudging".

When not working on wood?

Thinkingabout wood
Looking at wood available on the web
Dreaming about wood....

Indeed, I am "rabid."

I do like fishing and poking around in the woods. Even then I find myself gazing at the trees and envisioning them as lumber. I need to get a book on tree idenification because I live in a city with a wide variety of trees - even saw a chestnut recently.

As an old fart I also like golf. Used to think it was a dumb sport until I tried it. But I still think it is a dumb sport at times...usually after a bad shot.

Sounds like you need to check out a small, portable bandmill...become an urban logger.

, you are sick brother, join the club . Like joasis said, maybe it is time ? But trust me it just makes you more of a wood addict. The first time you saw out a birdseye maple log/curly cherry/your first 24" wide 8/4 walnut slab...and see the big stack that cost you a few bucks gas and a couple hours labor you are ruined. You may be already headed down the slippery slope.
Here is one for you...when I fry bacon in the morning I lay it in the pan in "bookmatches". Yea I sleep, eat and dream good wood. Do yo want to be like j and me? "Just say no" (if you go the other way we are here for you )

I'd like to say that music is a "hobby" but it's been a lifestyle for 25 years of my life...You should see the look on my employers faces when they see my "resume...".

Gerry,
I spend most of my time behind the tablesaw but on very few occasions I get on my Harley Davidson Deluxe softail and cruise the beach. The gulfcoast is just now starting to come back to life and I can say that I was 1 to 2500 motorcyclists to cross the new bridge last Thursday. We had been without the bridge for over 2 years since the storm. Work had to take a break for just one day.
Scuba diving is something else that I do as well. A hobby twice as expensive as wood working. Fun non the less.

lmao about Bookmatched Bacon, but I fully understand. And jeez no, I don't need to get a bandmill. One thing, I think I'm too old to be rasslin' logs, and I'd be snatching every chunk of wood bigger than a baseball bat just to see what's inside. Then again, sombody's going to sell me couple acres out in the country when they get ready to and.....

NO....STOP!!!!

Aww come on.....you sure you don't want to peek inside of a log and see what it is like? Last summer, I had a guy ask me to cut up a walnut stump....you should have seen the fiddleback grain......I should have taken a picture.....he wanted only the heart of the heart to make a few gunstocks out of.
