Default What was I thinkin?

About 2 years ago I finished my 2nd floor "woodshop". l got all my heavy tools up there through the French doors using the tractor forks and a riser box since the forks wouldn't reach the floor level.( See the bottom photo ) Two days ago I realized I had too much stuff up there, and no room to work, 3 tablesaws, 3 bandsaws, 3 jointers, 2 planers, 3 shapers, 3 dust collectors, 2 radial saws, ...etc. It was time to take the milling operation back downstaris to the first level and on the concrete. That will give me more space and take the weight off the steel beams supporting the upper floor. So, today my son and I started moving the 12" model 68 Powermatic TS by stripping it of all side tables, fence, roller stand, to reduce the lifting weight. I wrapped a chain and chainfall around the protruding beam left just for that purpose when I built the addition and lowered the saw onto the tractor forks. All went as planned, no blood, a little sweat and no tears. Now I'll finally be able to move around upstairs and actually make some stuff. Hooray! Next week I'll move some other heavy stuff down as soon as I can make room for it below. I should never have moved all that heavy equipment up there in the first place. What was I thinkin?
Second floor shops suck, but keep me in shape for 67 yrs old! bill

Wow, that is quite a project and that’s a mighty fine shop you got there. At least you have the equipment and help to get the job done.
Since my son left for a career in the military, I’ve been doing everything by myself. My wife helps occasionally when I get myself into a jam.

Thumbs down Two Laws Of Moving Heavy Objects

Murphies Law: Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.
Law of Gravity: Falling objects accelerate at the rate of 32 ft per sec/sec.
Murphies Law is usually followed closely by Gravity.
Helium balloons fall into the Murphy category, followed closely by Gravity! bill
