Default web template

hey guys , mega newb here, But a long time wood guy. Done a good trade in making pipes handcarving stuff and building houses. i made a web template that I am being bashed for, so I come to my fellow wood guys to assess said template and hopefully slap some sense into the arrogant web designers that have slammed me.

I made the wood texture that borders this from scratch , one of the things I am getting slammed for. lol it reminds me of a wood I have worked with but I forget the species.

I have been building websites for 10+ years. I also direct a software company. PERSONALLY, I usually don't like bevels, round overs and all the that jazz... I don't like them because they are usually image intensive and can take more time to load. They tend to make sites look gaudy(spelling?) and dated also. On this particular site I understand what you were trying to convey so I'm on the fence, I like it but I think it may be too much in some places. I would be happy to have a conversation with you about it over the phone, these thing are hard to flesh out over forums and email.

over the top youre thinking the buttons and glass right? those two are things i question as well. as woodwrokers we like smooth round edges as much as perfect sharp corners I prefer rounds , always have exept in matters of detail. I cant tell you how much I want to use the glass header but am being seduced by the idea of brass up there, which I am capable of doing pretty well but then there is the carved header and buttons approach ir the engraved navigation and brass header inlay idea.

Too many options for a decent gfx texture guy like myself, even rust would look great up there. Ill agree the glass is kinda tacky but the actual texture is really nice in and of itself.maybe brass and chrome. anyway I need to experiment with the outer gradients that create the bevel. I was planning on a flatter theme with this more the industrial plain jane type of thing but I wanted to get kicked in the face for this by some peers first I guess :) Is a template worth a long distance call heck its just a random template.
