Default Trees are dangerous

Monday morning, my daughter was taking her daughter to daycare when a 4' diameter maple tree snapped off at the ground and crushed their car.

Luckily, they only suffered minor cuts and bruises....this could have been much worse

jpw, that happened to my car a few years ago, though not quite as extensive damage. Crushed my windshield and a small section of my roof, tore off the side mirror, and the limb barely even hit me. Looks like your daughter suffered a direct hit. I'm glad to hear there were no big injuries.
Think of the [other] bright side-- NEW CAR. Insurance will definitely "total" that car, and assuming she had full coverage, she'll be in a new one very soon, though probably with a payment too if that car is more than a couple years old.
