Default Social Media?

Do you use any sites like facebook, twitter, myspace, linkedin...etc?

I pretty much use it all. I am pretty young so I wanted to see what you all use.

Nope, I see it as a gigantic waste of time. I don't want to spend hours looking at your pictures, or constantly being updated about what you are doing. WHO CARES. I don't! And I don't want to have people "following" me around. If you want to know what I'm up to, then call me, or text me, or heck, even e-mail me!

Note: I use "you" generically, and I too am young, but this "technology" is dumb!

I use twitter to follow the local weather and the local road reports. Other than that I find them very bothersome.

So far I've managed to avoid all of these social networks. Heck, I don't even have a cell phone. If I wanted to be reached 24/7 I wouldn't hide out in my shop or out somewhere with a fishing pole.
My wife, though, completely loves her facebook. She can keep up with people she went to school with that are several states away and that's cool for her.

Twitter seems good for those who are celebrity's or companies selling things. Facebook seems more personal if you have a profile page. They have fan pages and groups that people can start.

My impression of most of these media is that once they have your pictures, and/or personal information, they feel that they own it, and can pretty much use it any way they want. Also, once your information is in their system the whole world has access to it. I am far too private a person to want the whole world to know what I am doing, so I don't use any of these media systems.
I would far rather have a few good friends, than a whole world full of acquaintances.

Just my warped and twisted perspective on things.

Isn't twitter a type of bird??

All kidding aside, I tried myspace a few years back and ended up getting in touch with some old friends. I quickly realised why I lost contact with most of them. I don't use the social network sites anymore, but my wife does. She lives by them, but in her defense, she has been bedridden for the last 3 months due to some terrible spinal cord/ brain problems. The internet and the television have been her only release aside from my company, and reading books.

This forum is my 1st & only 'social networking' adventure.
I'm enjoying it, though I would still rather spend most of my free time woodworking, hunting or even fishing.... not sitting at the computer...

I say this as I sit here at my computer....

Most of these technologies people are using from there phones. Which is why it's really getting out of control... and annoying. That's why I stay away!

Do you feel out of the loop since most of you do not use these features? I'm sure you do not but do you hear younger generations talking about it and you feel confused?

Do any of you own a woodworking company? If so...marketing it on social sites could actually help...

None of the above. I don't even text and actually very rarely use a cell phone. About as close as I come is posting on a forum like here, or emails. For the most part I don't really want that many people knowing that much about me.

Why would anybody feel out of the loop. We are all in any loops that we want to be in. I talk to anybody that I want to talk to when I want to.

I see texting as an absolute waste of time and energy. If I need to talk to somebody I just call and talk.

Too often people get caught up in the fadish things just because they are not able to handle face to face relationships.

Yes I like facebook as all of my friends and relatives are at there. So if you want to know about someone in your family or friends ... just login facebook and you know everything what they are doing and what they are going to do as well.

Twitter is also getting my attention now a days.

My wife uses facebook and gchat(google chat) to keep in touch with her family since they are scattered around the world. It is wild to think about how different it is now than just a decade ago. She can sit on the couch with her wifi enabled laptop and chat to her sister in England and not have to worry about international charges by the minute. Most of my family, the younger generation that is, is on facebook. I however don't use facebook, so my wife keeps in touch with my side of the family more than I do. I'm only 35, but I feel that texting is also a waste of time. I can convey a message much quicker by just calling somebody versus fumbling with the silly way the phones are set up to type messages.

I guess I mean, out of the loop with technology. I agree with the texting posts. It takes so long to text a single message but I enjoy it when I don't feel like talking to people and just need to tell them something real quick.
