Default Plumbing - Canada

Hey guys,
Sorry this is way off topic, but was wondering if any plumbers out there had an idea about this.
We have a family cottage way up north in Canada (nearest town is hundreds of miles away), and we're connecting steel pipe in to a concrete tank for septic (obviously unthreaded). How would you seal that?
The folks before us used roofing tar... any other ideas?

If I understand the question, you are sticking a pipe into a hole in the tank ? If that is the case you want hydraulic cement (portland cement). It can be found at any hardware store. I used to run my own plumbing business before I got bit by the wood bug .

Crap. I'm a moron, I didn't even think of that (have some in the basement). But now that I am thinking about it... will portland cement hold up under ground? This is a steel pipe running under ground to a cement tank which connects to a septic bed (long crazy story but that's the basics).
Thanks for the advice Daren.

Yes, think about it, the septic tank is made of lesser material (aggregate concrete) and is subject to some real corrosive stuff, microbial breakdown of the waste inside produces methane gas and a long list of liquids that will eat just about anything. Trust me on this .
