I would not put that weapon in an enclosed gun case. I would make a case with a glass cover and hang it for all to see.

Gun is way too pretty for me. I like guns I can get dirty. It does look nice though.

It's just too ornate for me. Most of you will call me a nut and it won't offend me since I pretty much am, but when I put my plain jane SA beside the glitzy one, mine just looks a dern site prettier to my eye. Never mind the bad photography, the fact that it's still smudged from Sunday's romp through the woods, and that it's sitting on top of the P97DC box - still looks better to me . . . . .

I think mine is gonna get off the first shot and blow the gold off the pretty boy.

Have to agree with you TT. Weapons (specifically firearms) should be functional, not pretty. The only pistol ever in my family's house was a Springfield .45. Great weapon, though I only shot it a few times. It was my grandfathers and was stamped with a 1911?? stamp on it. I remember it was prior to WW1, but 1911 might not be the right date.

It was a model 1911, the very design as mine in the photo. It was designed by John Browning - I know you heard of him. But if he had it prior to WWI it wasn't a SA, as they didn't start making them until the outbreak of the war. Colt was the original manufacturer for the Army, and when WW1 broke out, Colt couldn't meet the demand so the government, which at the time owned Springfield Armory, gave themselves a contract as well. I stand to be corrected on this.

It later became designated as the 1911A1. The US Army adopted it as the standard issue firearm in 1911, and it remained in service until the mid 80s when (IMO) political agendas had it replaced with the Baretta 9mm. Most servicemen will tell you they want the .45 ACP back, and there's been a lot of talk about it. I've also heard the Pentagon is looking at something entirely different but that's probably political too.

There's more history behind the sidearm than I can even scratch the surface, but all I know is that in my hands, I can group at 30 yards with the SA with just about anyone. It's accurate and reliable and well, the prettiest handgun on the planet IMO.

I think the "tribute" models are more decorative than functional, and if I did get one it would be for display. I'm more into revolvers as a sidearm/handgun. One of my favorites is this Dan Wesson .357 with interchangeable barrels. Very accurate and very dependable. What was that about "blowin' the gold off?

yeah, I better put the SA back in the box.

Clarification though, when I said " . . .there is more history to the sidearm . . . ." what I meant was the 1911 specifically and not sidearms in general. I don't 5% of the history of the 1911 but I do love it.

Revolvers, yes they certainly have many advantages. I've had my mind on an SP101 for a while. My wife totes a Lady Smith and I've toyed with the idea of getting a Ruger LCR, but I just can't bring myself to rely on a .38 caliber. There's no second place winner in a gunfight.

It would sure be a lot lighter than the SP101 - it weighs only ~14 ounces!

The 101 is small enough to blend in, but heavy enough to help dampen the .357 mag. I know snub .357 mag is no fun to shoot, but I think it's settled, I should go for the SP101. And a XD(M) in .45 ACP also. A man can never have enough .45's lying around. Thanks for helping me decide this.

I love my GP100. The wheel guns make reloading so much easier, no chasing brass all over the place. I will say for carry my G19 packs a whole bunch of firepower in a medium size package.
