Default Magazine Scam

Be aware of kids or teenagers going door to door selling magazine subscriptions. The company name is Atlantic Circulation Inc. They claim they are in a points race for a free trip to Europe. They claim it is to better than communication skills. Some even say they are in culinary school. IT IS A SCAM !!! Call the cops and report them.
Good thing they were not selling any woodworking magazines or I would have been had. After talking to these kids for a couple of minutes I went and checked them out on the good old internet. Low and behold my suspicions were correct.

Allthumbs,
I have run into them or similar groups. There was a feature article in our local newspaper awhile back about these groups. They usually prey on troubled kids and promise them money for selling the subscriptions. They treat the kids like a a bunch of migrant workers and never end up paying them. I just make a habit anymore of not buying anything from door to door people unless it's kids I know from the neighborhood raising money for school projects or girl scout cookies.

Watch out for the ones that send you renewal notices through the mail. All they do is collect your money at a slightly higher price and then forward the subscription renewals/new to the magazine. You pay more and usually it takes about 6 months for your subscription to start.

Some magazines (a.k.a. AutoWeek) refuse to deal with them and periodically run editorials about them.

These guys seem to change names and locations frequently. I don't know if it is that the law is after them or moving is cheaper than paying rent. They all seem to have the same "stationary" with the blue line.

Lately it seems that these subscription outfits are moving their mail drop boxes to the cities where legitimate magazines are located. It really makes it difficult to sort out what is real and what is a third party.

ALWAYS MAKE YOUR CHECK PAYABLE TO THE MAGAZINE AND NOT TO SOME " publisher's service".
