Default Idiots in Orange

You know the drill... LOML says crown molding. And has been saying it for about 3 years. Finally, I say, "I ain't going to paint."

So Lowe's to get the good dry 2x4 to cut up for backing.

Off to HD for the bulk packs of crown.

They come in 8 piece bundles at 16 feet long. Cool, two packs will do the job at $54 each. All pre-primed MDF molding.

If you ever frequent HD you KNOW that the molding is stacked on end and 16 feet straight up. I wiggle two bundles free and align the cart. As I pick up a bundle, holy bat poop it's heavy, but I guide it to the cart. As I lower the bundle to the cart, I discover that the stuff is very flimsy. Oh poop! the cart is moving. I'm having difficulty controlling everything. Oh man it's going across the aisle, but OK everything is under control.

OH CHIT!

You'll never guess what is displayed on the aisle across from the molding. No, not mirrors but windows. I didn't break a window but it was close.

You sit there and say... "Nobody is that stupid, but the evidence is right across the aisle from the molding."

You might like using the clear primed pine crown. Not as fragile and much lighter. You can find 'em pretty straight.

Even pre primed finger joint. Best part about WOOD is that it DOES NOT mushroom when you nail it like MDF does

Were you wearing orange? You were the one who miscalculated the weight of the product and then placed it in a cart that was unsecured. I don't see how HD placing their windows near there has any bearing on your miscalculations. Sorry.

Leo,
You had to be there.

It's sort of like using a "Long Ranger" to controll your table saw.

Yes it can be done.

Yes it can be done safely.

But it is just an accident waiting to happen.

Oh, I get it now. You work at a BORG...

I agree with the clear pine or finger joint. Much easier to work with and more forgiving if you make a mistake. Finger joint is usually a little cheaper.

I have worked with the MDF stuff for baseboard when I was refurbishing a condo. i always asked for help loading when I needed a number of pieces. I have never seen anything stacked like y ou describe.

I've never understood the MDF and synthetic molding. At least the plastic stuff is light-weight but it never looks right. Obviously everyone has their personal preference, but you couldn't pay me to use anything but wood for molding. I might paint it, but it'll still be wood.

I just call them like I see them. I see it all the time. People blaming others because they don't want to take the blame themselves. It may not be the best setup @ the Borg, but you were doing stuff by yourself that should have been a 2 man operation. Plus at the Borg they always tell you if you need help just ask. That is if you can find anyone when you need them.

If I did work at the Borg I would be the only qualified worker there.

Oh how true!

I worked part time at one of our favorite woodworking suppliers. At the time for holiday decorations, they actually specified the UPC of the colored bows that we had to use. It was 'Go to wally world and buy this UPC bow.' I was the lucky guy that had to go and buy 20 of them. The poor wally world employees finally found 20 of them. A few were slightly wrinkled but I took them any way. One of the employees told me, after reading the memo, "XYZ is just like wally world." And then he just laughed.
