Default Happy Indy Day~ What's your plans?

Or for those who are out of pocket for the weekend and read this later, what did you do?

The missus and me are staying off the waterways and highways. I think just one of our kids is coming over the rest are young enough they think they have to go out and ski and all that stuff I used to do before I hit the big . . . Five Oh!

I'm working in the shop today because it is nice and hot and humid. I'm praising God because my feet are not cold this time of year. No way no how would I choose to live north of the Red River. I probably would not work today at all, but we ran a Independence Day special on Charles Neil's woodworking forum and when we did, he mentioned it in his newsletter which goes out to a billion people and we got swamped with orders. Not complaining just didn't want y'all's to think I am a workaholic. Necessity.

But all work and no play makes Kevin a dull boy so I'll be grilling steak and salmon later. We pronounce the "l" here in Texas. Why let a perfectly good letter go to waste? "Hooo dawgy! Thassum dayum good sowl-mun momma! Howdgya make-atstuff?"

Grilling is for the meal of the evenin, but I'm also lightin off the smoker here in a bit and gonna throw a meat medley in there for tomorrows Sunday-after-meetin meal. Plus, just the fragrance alone of the mesquite/pecan mix that I have almost perfected (owning a sawmill has it's perks there's always a flavor to try) makes the food off the grill taste even better.

I don't usually add any wood to my grilling because we use several different rubs or marinades depending on what meat we're grilling, and we like to keep the flavors simple and not complex like I used to be prone to doing. I don't usually season the salmon though, we like it just as it is. Sometimes a little homemade horseradish sauce on the side is great with salmon though. We both prefer red wine no matter the meal, and I prefer a Ruby Port.

Between working in the shop and tending to fixins, we are actually relaxing while getting things done. Now I spent a lot of time talking about food, but Indy Day is for reflecting on the Liberty our forefathers tried to secure for us. they did all they could, and the succeeding generations did as best they could as well, but alas, it appears that the forces that oppose our freedoms have nearly got us enslaved due to the 100 years of the slippery slope down which our citizenry, including our own generation, has allowed us to go.

I have very "harsh and radical" views about the how and why this has happened, and where we are headed, but i will refrain from making this a political post and I ask others to do the same. For today, let's celebrate what liberty and freedom we have left, and so from Kevin and Terry Timbers, may God be with all of you and yours today and may y'all all have a safe and blessed Indy weekend. Insert fireworks icon here. Hey Nathan a fireworks icon would be cool.

It is a rain out here today. Gonna rain all day/night looks like. The "cook outs" have been moved indoors. Every one have a safe and happy 4th.

Default Hi Everyone! Celebrate Independence Day with us!

My mom's relatives came over from Exeter, England in 1635, so I come from a long line of scalawags, ne'er-do-wells, civil war vets, presidential candidates,(Alf Landon), humorists, (Samual Clements aka Mark Twain), Irish Democrats (father's side) English Republicans (mothers side) and other miscreants, to all of whom I am grateful for their service and hard work. I am keeping up those traditions as best I can, at age 67, raising my 13 yr old son, teaching him right from wrong (left) and other important and radical views. He's a chip off the old block Version II, Beta. He shoots as straight as me, but not as fast. He's got a handshake like a Gorilla, but not quite my match ...yet. He helps me do everything I ask, reluctantly sometimes, but he's learning everything I can teach him, forces, leverage, ropes, pulling stumps, tractor stuff, lifting heavy things, and male logic, as opposed to female "logic", and last but not least woodworking. He's got a nice collection of tools: drill press, bandsaw, scroll saw, sabre saw, battery drills, several hammers, a nail pouch, and other cool stuff. He's my pride and joy and the best thing that every happened to this old retired guy. We'll have a little meat off the grill and keep on workin' ourselves. You folks out there have a Great Holiday with those you love and remember:
FREEDOM ISN'T FREE.........

My fourth of July plans consisted of me working a 24 hour shift here at the Fire Dept. It royally sucked! Let me tell you why. Not only was it Independance Day but it was also my 34th Birthday. This was the first time in 20-30 years that I wasn't out on my boat for the fourth. What made this day even worse was the fact that I had to work my ars off at work. For some reason it was brush fire day in my district, and where were all these brush fires you ask, well at the lake of course, lol. We did have a few EMS type calls but 75% of our calls this shift we were pullin hose and working hard. My wife and 8 month old Son did come visit me and brought us all cake and ice cream and that was definetly the highlight of my shift. In retrospect, I'm not bitter about having to work my birthday/4th of July anymore. It could have been alot worse. I could have been trying to figure out how I was going to feed my family like alot of people in this Country b/c I had lost my job. So at the end of the day, it was a good 4th of July/Birthday. I hope everyone was safe this holiday and enjoyed some family time and fireworks.

We went to the square and listened to my stepson play in the orchestra, then we went home and had steaks, and taught my oldest son and his wife how to turn pens on the lathe. We played till midnight. and my son got to turn his first bowl. They left this morning with the grandbabies, had a very good time.

Jeremy, I was starting to get a little disappointed in you (wasn't going to say anything though) until the end of your post where you said what I was already thinking. You figured it out on your own though. We are so blessed those of us who don't have to scrape to feed our families, not that it isn't challenging for us sometimes too but like you, I'm not complaining either. It's good you have a wife that will bring you food and smiles and kisses ~ many men do not have that, even some that have a wife.

Gary sounds like you had a great day too.

We went to the MLS soccer match last night. WOW! Quite a bit of "fireworks" both on and off the field.

IMNHO, the league (MLS) needs to review tapes of every game. There was some rather nasty things (both sides) that went undetected by the refs. I see nothing wrong with post event "RED" cards being issued.

TT you are so correct about your statement. I think I started my day Bitter b/c I had to work and as the call volume increased so did my bitterness. But at the end of the day I realized that I was actually having a pretty darn good 4th. My wife is definetly a blessing to me and she shows me daily how much she loves me.
