Default Electric Charger

Hey all, my boyfriend and I like to work on our bikes and on our car when we have the time and money to upgrade automotive parts. I was online this morning checking out some different products when I saw an electric supercharger. It was significantly cheaper than your conventional supercharger AND it said you'd increase MPG. Is this believable or a scam? Because if it worked, and gave our car torque AND less time at the pumps, I AM IN!!

I would guess it is a scam, because effective superchargers are mechanically driven.

I read a similar question on a truck forum and the general consensus was that it was a scam. There are a lot of real knowledgeable automotive types there, so it was enough to convince me not buy one.

The electric supercharger is the butt of lots of jokes on the automotive forums. They're basically similar to installing an electric leaf blower in the air intake.

When intake valves open, the engine sucks air into the combustion chamber. It will only suck in a limited volume of air. Superchargers and turbo chargers work by building air pressure to force additional air into the chamber when the intake valves open. If you talk to supercharger and turbocharger guys they're always talking about how much "boost" they're running or pushing into the engine. That's a measure of air pressure in PSI on the intake. The leaf blower can blow leaves around but can't build up any pressure to force additional air into the engine..

Jenna,
Why would you be asking automotive questions on a woodworking forum?

The group here is knowledgeable but surely an automotive forum would be a better choice for your question...

Geo,
I checked her other post. I guess she is for real. I stand corrected. The way this post was worded it seemed like spam.

Default It's stealth spam

If you click on automotive parts it brings up a site, something about superchargers there, but not electric. I didn't think you could advertise on your first post, unless you are really pretty. That explains it. I'm sure jenna will come back after her 2 posts and reply to our doubts about her motives and give us her phone number for any additional questions. bill

Just googled JENNAKORTAN. Not to be the skeptic, but she is involved in every forum from Toronto to Timbucktoo. All of which only have around 1 or 2 posts from her. After viewing several of her profiles, (each with a different looking woman in the avatar) she apparently has occupations, varying from dental hygenist, to musician, to sales rep, to marketing assistant, to plain old student. Interesting. On one forum, I found it interesting that our girl Jenna, was listed as a male. On the Audi forum, JENNAKORTAN has been banned. Just thought that I would let you know.

That's amazing. With all those occupations, I can't believe she has time for so many forums.

So what’s the deal? I don’t understand what they get out of it. I didn’t see anything to link us up to anything.
That’s interesting about the Google thing, I never thought of that.

Default Sleeper go back to my post

Click on automotive parts and you will be linked to a web site selling auto parts. It's not obvious cause it's in black type and not a www. type of link, so it would be easy to miss. Stealth spamming as I call it. bill

This particular "urban Legend" has been around for a few years now.

In 2007 it was dillegently discussed on www.boatered.com. Same conclusion there. It is all a spoof.
