Great Thread. I usually have some kind of sound on in the shop as I have tinnitus (ringing in the ears). The sounds vary from conservative talk radio, all kinds of country music including Bluegrass, Cape Brenton Island Celtic/Country music and oldies Rock and Roll. If there is a special event on the tube like, auto racing or sports event i will let that on in the back ground. If it is the tube I don't pay much attention to it unless I am moving around the shop or want to take a break

As a relative newcomer to rural Georgia (moved here from Maryland in 2002), I've been dismayed by the choices I have. My shop is right at the fringe between the two PBS stations of choice, WABE in Atlanta and WUGA in Athens, so depending on the condition that day, I may or may not get classical music and All Things Considered. Otherwise, I'll listen to the station that carries Braves Baseball (The Bull) and put up with C&W music. I like some C&W, particularly some of the oldies, but I get awful sick of hearing the sames songs over and over.

Reminds me of a time in the early 80's when I was in the Air Force, I went to the Senior NCO Academy at Gunter AFS in Monthomery AL. As part of our introduction to the school, the mayor of Montgomery came out to the base to welcome our class to his city. He told us that we had our choice of two different kinds of music during our stay - Country and Western.

Can't complain too much - I get Fred, Johnny and Peter along with Kenny, Conway and Claude, or Chopin, Cash, Tchaikovsky, Rogers, Twitty and DeBussy.

Wow, I should have tried to go there instead of the USASMA in El Paso. But, I did learn the Two Step at the Silver Spur and I still listen to C&W more than any other type of music.

We AF types were given a chance to apply to the USASMA at Ft Bliss, but I seem recall that the length of the school meant a PCS move whereras the USAFSNCOA was only 3 months so it would be a TDY. I was stationed at Wheeler AFB (now a part of Schofield Barracks) and wasn't ready ro give up my tour in Hawaii. As I recall, my class had two or three each from the Army and Navy.

This week, LOML and I are driving out to Texas for a vacation with kids, grandkids and greatgrandkids. I doubt we'll do any bar hopping or two stepping, but the car radio will no doubt find more CW than PBS along the way.

I haven't really read through this entire thread, but, a while back I was checking out Daren's website and suddenly started hearing some great music.
Somewhere on there he has a list of truly great music to listen to... free! (Good picks Daren). I listened to the whole list while reading through the Woodworkingtalk... er talk.

I have to agree. I'm lucky enough to be woodworking for pleasure so adding some music only adds to the experience.
The great thing about getting older is now I like almost all types of music (as long as it's good). An occasional cool beverage is nice too (no power tools ).

I added that player several months ago and kinda forgot about it (on the "contact us" page) I just went there and some/several of the songs just skip and go to the next one (no longer available ? and some of those were my favorites) I will have to go back and reload with more tunes from the place I got the plug-in. I had 100 when I installed the plug-in, I need to weed out the dead ones and add more. It was weird I could think 100 songs just of the top of my head I liked, it was installed and loaded with tunes in less than 2 hours.

Well back to the shop I go, crank up the tunes and make some sawdust. __________________

I haven't been out in the shop much lately, but finally got going again today - planed a few white oak boards and cut a few pieces for the dresser (don't ask, the dresser is going kinda slow). Today was Cross Canadian Ragweed. This evening was AC/DC with a few beers while watching glue dry. I know it sounds strange that an old guy (upper 40's) would like AC/DC but it's a break from the outlaw country that I seem to like lately),

During work hours(at customers house), I usually have on 92.3 k-rock in NYC. They play new rock mixed with old hair metal( VAN HALEN W/DLR, MOTLEY CRUE,SOUNDGARDEN etc.). At the shop, METAL!!!!!! KING DIAMOND, DOWN, PANTERA.......
I'll also listen to Skynyrd alot. Outlaw country has been finding its way on my radio also, lately.

Found another source for good online radio. www.music.aol.com. Click on the radio tab. They have some great stations. Tonight I'm cleaning the shop and listening to a station called "rock cover songs". Lots of great rock tunes redone, some pop tunes done in metal.

Hi gang,
Once I get my shop in action, I'll be putting a stereo and a PC out there for entertainment, along with a small TV. Man-cave sort of thing yaknow. I also am a fan of audio books, so I've got an MP3 player and a set of headphones.

A self-confessed "audiophool", I have been hoarding mid~high end gear for the last 30+ years so my shop has a fairly reasonable (and loud) system made up from "too good for the shop but what the hell" components out of my stash.

Onkyo TX-850 receiver
Panasonic DVD RV31 dvd player
Polk RT35i speakers

I listen to everything from Sinatra to Steppenwolf at levels that can be heard over whatever machinery I'm running. During quieter times like glue ups or other hand tool work I tend to listen to a lot of CBC1 talk radio only I talk back to it I do have a tiny 5" b&w tv in there that I never watch but use for a background noise on occasion.
