Default Computer question re browsers

I have used IE for years, and get booted off, shut down and it's slow. I started accesing this site with Google Chrome, man it's fast...BAM. And for manageing attachments it's great never fails. But, I find this problem: I want to upscroll a photo and paste from one post to another using Chrome, like I can with IE. NOT HAPPENING!I go "copy" with a right click and scroll up and "past" but nothing. Other than that I love Chrome. Escpecially on a Harley,
Any suggestions or reasons why? Thanks, bill

Bill,

I don't follow what you mean by "upscroll". I am able to copy/paste images from chrome but don't understand exactly what it is that you can't do.

I installed chrome just now to see if I could help with your problem. I'm a power user and find chrome to be a POS. Despite loathing and despising Microsoft, I'll still have to stick w/ IE.

If you can be more specific about exactly what the problem is I'll see if I can help.

Paul

WOW ... Chrome is REALLY a POS. In IE I see a small ad section at the top, then your post and then my reply. In chrome I see the small ad section, then your post, then a HUGE ad section, then ANOTHER ad section, then my reply. This is really obnoxious.

GADS ... it just keeps getting WORSE. For some reason, in chrome, there is no "edit" button. I wanted to edit this reply and had to switch back to IE to do it. Amazing. The buttons for "edit", "quote", "multiquote", and "quick reply" in the lower right corner of this box show up in IE but in Chrome, there is only the "quote" button. UPDATE ... OK, the problems described in this reply were my bad ... I was not logged into the forum in chrome, so it wouldn't let me add and gave me extra ads (guess the forum builder figured it's OK to be obnoxious to non-logged in folks). Now I'm logged in in chrome and this part is all OK, but chrome still sucks for my purposes.

Anyway, the reason I wanted to edit the post was to add a statement that if you reply fairly soon I'll try to help but I'm finding chrome to be such a stunning POS that I'm not going to even keep it installed after trying to help with your problem.

Paul

Finally I found someone that has used the new Google Chrome. I had been thinking about trying it. I have used Firefox for years with no complaints. I may have to give it a try if it's that fast. As for your copy and paste problem I'm sure someone in this forum can help you. Sorry I could not help I just had to reply when I seen you were using google chrome. Is there any other features it has that IE or Firefox does not. I was just wondering. Keep me posted...

Based on my quick analysis I'd guess that if you're happy w/ Firefox, you'll be at least as happy w/ Chrome. Personally I find Firefox and Chrome both to be unusable, but I have needs beyond simple browsing and neither of them are acceptable.

Default Upscroll

What I do is hold left click and scroll up, then right click, copy, and then paste where I want to add the photo. IE let's me do this, Chrome wants to save image as ... Chrome also says copy but won't paste the image, only the text.
BTW I had no idea this would be as controversial as it seems! Wow!
I'm not very computer wise, so what do I know? bill

I use chrome since ie sucks also. I have no problems with it like Paul does. It has worked so much better than ie since chrome came out. I don't have an answer for your question though as I never use the function you are describing.

And all the buttons are on the lower right of the box. I just edited this fine.....I wonder while your computer doesn't, Paul?

Hi Bill. I work on computers every day. I use IE and Firefox. But I only use IE when I have to for very specific reasons because I find Firefox to be smaller, faster, easier to customize and more secure than IE in general.

As far as getting booted off or shut down or the computer becoming very slow I would look at something other than the browser as the cause for these problems. Without more input I cant really delve into too many solutions for you. It would be handy to know which operating system you use (like Windows 98 or XP or Vista or whatever), which brand it is (like Dell or HP etal) and about what size of processor your using and how much memory is installed. And which anti-virus do you use.

But one thing I would strongly recommend you try using is Spybot. Its small, its extremely effective and its free. I like to tell people its the best malware removal, protective/ preventative software money CANT buy. Although they do appreciate donations. It is not an anti-virus. But it will find tons of malware, browser hi-jackers, trojans and all sorts of stuff that all the anti-viruses out there either will not find or cannot find for some odd reason or another.

There is a nice little tutorial about how to install it here although it is rather simple and you probably dont need it. Its full name is Spybot - Search & Destroy or Spybot-S&D. You can read a short review and also download it from here.

And if you have anymore questions I am glad to assist if I can.

Bill,

I know it may sound dense, but I still don't get what the problem is. That could be because I'm not following your sequence or it could just be because my machine won't replicate the problem. Can you give a very detailed, specific, sequence such as this?

put cursor over pic
click left
select copy
move cursor to where pic goes
click right
select paste

and like that.

Also, I absolutely agree w/ both of Ray's main points that
1) The browser is NOT likely to be the cause of your slowdown
2) SpyBot is a simple and effective (possible) solution ... it won't solve some problems but it will solve a lot of them.

Paul

Bill Firefox is the best way to go, Chrome sucks I was thinking of trying Safari (Its an apple product) As for what Ray said about Spy-bot it is good and free, however I would suggest Firefox as a browser, Thunderbird for email and get Avast Professional it's 39.95 a year but it is the best anti-virus. It don't slow your computer and I have two boys that use all of the above and like to go to hacker sights for games and they have not gotten a virus since they switched to the above. When they used IE and Norton, AVG or McAfee they always had something on there computer. Avast has a really good free version also but the Pro version is worth every penny.

Me personally I think windows update has created problems hoping to get everyone to buy Windows 7. What a marketing plan, screw up your already problem plagued Microsoft products to get you to buy there newest plagued software. Yet I support Bill gates and his mega billions. I bought a new laptop and just ordered my free windows upgrade. Don't figure

One last suggestion there are allot of computer people that suggest a clean install every year or so. I load windows and then install all my programs. I then set everything up just like I want it and burn an image make a backup of my hard drive. Now If I get a crash or have problems I can just start from that spot with everything installed. I also keep a backup of all my files on a portable HD. The power goes out here if you sneeze so I also run my PC on battery backup (UPS) this has worked so good I'm gettin one for my TV and DVR box. I hate whn a shows recording and the box goes off becaus of a power flicker.

Bill,

Concerning your copy/paste problem. Another option you might consider trying is this:

To Copy: Highlight the area with your mouse as you normally would, then hold 'Ctrl' + 'A'
To Paste: Click your mouse where you want the text pasted, and then press 'Ctrl' + 'V

Default Hi Ray

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I downloaded the spyware doctor from pctools. I can't believe how many windows it opened and I had to go through.. but finally I completed the download. I had installed spybot several years ago and paid for a license then I couldn't get it to update, so I just gave up and only used error killer.
My main point here was the difference in load speed between the IE and Google browsers when I click on a site or link. IE takes 2 to 5 times longer, I have High speed cable, 5 x speed, I think. My computer is an older Dell, 486, 1.8 speed, with 1 g memory, Windows XP with updates.
My other point was just a simple photo copy/paste issue with Chrome wasn't possible unless I saved the image to my photos then retrieved it later., not user friendly for me. IE works much better for me since it will let me left click, scroll up on a photo, right click copy, then paste into my response. Maybe Chrome will do the same, but I haven't been able to figure out how yet. I basically like the speed of Chrome, and I have Firefox as well, but haven't used it much. I don't know the advantages of these different browsers. Maybe there is a link which compares the features and performance? Thanks for your reply, bill

Default Richard, Thanks also

I ran into a problem loading the pctools software and they have charged my card, and because I don't have a good registration no. or gave them an incorrect email... I can't even write or talk to them and retrieve a good no. I sent an email via support@pctools.com and we'll see what happens. Otherwise I'll have to dispute the charge to the card on Tues. what a PITA They really don't want to talk to you unless you can register, which you can't because of above.....Wait and see. bill

Interesting. You must have tried a different product than the Spybot Search and Destroy as I linked to in my post above. There is no license. Spybot is free. It has always been free.

You might consider taking another look at my post.

I love Chrome. I use it for general browsing and find it fast as lighting compared to IE especially. I don;t use IE at all. For my banking and business I use FF exclusively. The NoScript add-on makes it super secure and the number of other great add-ons makes it a no brainer. I still prefer Chrome over FF for general browsing though. I've had almost no problems with Chrome and I like the simplicity of it. the few features that it does have are just what I would want in a browser anyway.

I would remove IE completely if I wasn't using a Window OS (Vista - liked XP better but Vista is ok), but I've been told over and over by computer geeks it would screw up the OS if I did that, so it remains as mostly dead space on my HD.

I had some prob;ems with Spybot S&D when I tried it a few years ago as well. Maybe it's better now, but I've been using CCleaner and AusLogistics Defrag as between the two I can keep a clean registry, have good malware protection, and defrag occasionally and I haven't had any problems since using these programs coupled with Chrome and FF.

Different things seem to work for different folks, and my philosophy is . . . . if it works, don't fix it. If it's broke, get to turnin' the wrenches.

If you have a relatively new computer I do not think the browser makes much difference. I see very little difference between any of them, including AOL. I use the browsing capability of AOL seldom, but when I do I see no difference between it, IE, Fire Fox or Chrome. Everything comes up fast on all of them. Whatever I ask any of them to do is almost instant.

I think the think that makes the big difference, and has really not been mentioned here, is the hardware. If you have a good amount of RAM (at least 2 gig), a hard drive that is not overloaded and a fast processor that any of them are good. If you are big into video then of course a good video card is required.

Bill I didn't say to get pctools I said spybot and Avast. I also would use Firefox and Thunderbird they are proven to be very good.

This is a good free on line virus scan if needed.

Default Yah Richard I know

I got sidetracked with all the choices and actually it was a simple fix. I had a purchase code for the wrong product which of course I didn't want and they refunded my charge...I hope. So I deleted everything and I will start from scratch. I'll see what happens ....Thanks. bill
BTW the site I got sidetracked on was www.majorgeeks.com
