Default Chevy Volt

OK so GM got some of our money to stay alive a little while longer. All through Christmas week I see Chevy Volt commercials. GM obviously thinks this car is their salvation. I don't know about other areas of the country but around here (central NY) with our electric rates the last thing you want to do is plug something in. People around here avoid electric heat, electric cloths dryers, water heaters, etc. etc. like the plague. So why do I want to plug my car in?????? What is the cost per mile as compared to gasoline?????

If you have a 30K pickup truck and you trade if for a 30K Volt or another other hybrid, you might save some money. But if you have to spend 10K or more to trade for it. Do the math. It will take your many many years to pay that 10K back in gas savings! Fact is, you never get your money back. So you paid money to drive it.

I love the idea but the $$ are not there yet.

You guys are missing the point about the plug ins. The secret is to plug it into your neighbors house.

I might buy the car if I could charge the car with Solar power.

You could use solar power. You just could not drive very often unless you had a very large array.

Why not just charge it to Al Gore's credit card?

I caught G. Gordon talking about this waste of OUR money. How long does the Volt take to charge up enough to run down the block to get a gallon of milk ? 8 HOURS ! ! ! But remember the big picture . . . . when we shut down all the "dirty, evil, satanic (coal fired) power plants there'll be nothing to plug the darn thing INTO ! That makes the Volt is a useless peice of pipe-dream before you even MAKE it.
