Default Camera Settings

Since I started using a digital camera, I've always used the "auto" setting. Back in the pre-digital days I used a 35mm SLR and was fairly competent with manual mode settings for aperture and speed even though there was an "auto" setting.

I have yet gone into "menu" to see what is available. But I was thinking...that a cool function for a digital would be when in the "auto" mode, to have a little readout for what the aperture and speed would be for that shot if set on "manual".

Default When I switch to manual mode

It doesn't address the issue in auto mode you reference, which would be a good feature, but in manual mode it tells me the F stop and shutter speed in the window on my Kodak, then you can switch back to auto, take a pix both ways and see which is better? As the light reflected from the subject increases or decreases in manual mode, the SS changes in my window as I watch. FYI bill

I have a Fuji S1000fd and it has all the read out at
the bottom of the screen, view finder in all settings.
It will sing and dance and do windows, clean the
dishes and walk the dog.

10mp, SLR, under $200 at WalMart.

It also has stabilization.

The camera is a Fuji 3800...not the latest or greatest of cameras. It's a hand-me-down from LOML. I'm familiar with option settings as my 35mm camera is a Minolta XD-11.

What interest's me would be to have the info displayed while in "auto" mode just for info's sake. My Minolta has a 3 position option over the settings one way or another for either mode when making a shot. So, I was thinking if I set up for a picture, and do the "light touch" for the shutter and see the aperture and speed, I may want to go to manual mode to get a different setting. I don't know if I explained this correctly. It would be like having a camera expert standing next to me when I'm taking a picture and the camera is in the "auto" mode, and he tells what the settings are and makes suggestions to go to "manual" and go up or down in aperture or speed for a better picture.

I appreciate the input as some of you guys are really up on the new technology.

Are you sure that it is a Single Lens Reflex(SLR)? I just visited the site and it does not say it is a SLR nor does it look like an SLR. The specs say it has a 12x optical zoon. That is usually a spec that is associated with a non-SLR camera.

I have not seen an SLR camera priced at even twice that.

You are right, I used the wrong term, it has thru
the lens viewing, but not reflex, It does not have
a view finder lens. It has an electronic view finder
that uses the main lens. So it only has one lens.
