Default AWFS - Wanna come?

Hello all,

You may be aware that the AWFS is being held in Las Vegas from July 18 to July 21, at the LV Convention Center. LOML and I will be there in the Woodworker's Supply booth showing off tools, and I'll be demonstrating the Matchmaker and a midi-lathe.

Anyway, some of the folks at SMC started the idea of a gathering in LV, so I [was] "volunteered" to sort of get the ball rolling and "host" it. So, here's the scoop.

If you are going to be in Las Vegas for the AWFS, we are having a gathering on Thursday night, July 19, at JT's near the airport, starting at 7:00 p.m. Since I'll be getting to LV on the 11th, I can make a reservation for a back room or a huge table--whichever is necessary for the number of attendees. If you would like to join the party, PLEASE either post here that you (and your spouse, by name) will be coming or let me know by PM. I'll need a head count, and I'm going to make name tags for the group, so let me know.

Hope to see and meet you in Vegas!!

Nancy

Sorry, can't come as in UK but will raise a glass at the appropiate time.

In meantime, Nancy, what exactly is a 'matchmaker'?

The Matchmaker is a machine that can duplicate woodworking joints with ease. It moves in three planes and uses a router to make box joints, mortises, tenons, and other types of joints. See it here:
http://pro.woodworker.com/cgi-bin/FU...PARTNUM=95-201

We cut box joints for 25 boxes in about 45 minutes on this machine--as compared to forever on a table saw.

Don't worry Nancy, usual delay while people check their diaries etc.
I visited the Matchmaker site and looks good machine. however, wanted to charge for old fashioned video tape.

Suggest they put onto Utube or similar, have enjoyed several videos of woodworking from links here.

Have a good time.

AWFS = Association of Woodworking & Furnishings Suppliers®

They hold a huge trade show in Las Vegas in alternate years (2009, 2007). The alternate years have the IWF in Atlanta. Check out the LV show here: http://www.awfsfair.org/

LOML = Love of my Life -

This thread was opened in 2007, before the AWFS of that year, when I tried to organize a meet-and-greet party for members of woodworking forums such as this. Since we won't be going this year, no party. But you might find the show of interest. When it takes a company a full week to set up their display booth, you know there's a lot to see.

Nancy,
I guess I'm going to as different AWFS show in LasVegas. The show that I'm attending is July 15 through July 18 of 2009.

I hope that this isn't a "Oh Bat Poop" moment for you.

Free passes are almost unheard of. AWFS is a not for profit organization and for some reason they have not been convinced that they could sell passes to exhibitors.

Is NOBODY else in the group going to AWFS?

I, for one, would like to put faces with handles.

I'll be the guy walking around the exhibit floor wearing a red FedEx / Ferrari Formula One hat.

Look for me...
