Default Advice Request

We're going on vacation. Usually we take a lap top with us to keep in touch with the kids.

So the hotel (unnamed on purpose) offers a wireless hot spot for, get this, $13 A DAY! The fee for 10 days at the hotel would cover the cost of three months of broadband access at home.

I think that you see where I'm coming from...

There is a service that offers WiFi hot spot access for $10 a month. It is called Boingo.

Can anybody here say anything good/bad about Boingo services? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Rich,
I don't know what fleabag motel wanted 13.00 a day, but most of the hotels I have stayed in the last year or so, offer free wifi access. Also, check around, but most coffee shops, (aribicas, etc. ) offer free wifi. I wouldn't pay anything extra for that service nowadays. If all else fails, find the local library and use their service.

I just stayed in a Goodnight Inn for 3 days and they charged me $5 per day. I can’t remember the name of the service, but I was a little upset because they cut me off the last day a few hours early. Make sure you have all the security updates and antivirus software loaded up before hand.

Danger Will Robinson!

Any WiFi that you can log into can have someone monitoring it. Or even be an evil twin. Don't do ANYTHING like banking or longing into e-mail on a public WiFi.

Can we say Identity Theft.
