Default Sweetest Day gift for the wife.

I made this ring from Spalted sycamore scrap. First time I've ever tried a ring, I don't think it turned out to bad. My wife saw Daren's toe ring gift thread and kept telling me she wanted me to make one or buy her one, so being cheap like I am I searched the scrap pile for a nice piece. It was fun to make, maybe I'll make more sometime.

If it's not a trade secret, I am curious to know how you made it. My youngest daughter would really like this. Thanks.

There might be an easier way, but what I did was take a one and a quarter hole saw and cut a blank, then drilled out the center one size at time. After that it just came down to sanding and trial fitting and more sanding. I finished it with a coat of poly (probably will give it a second to smooth it ou just alittle more) hope that helps, it took about an hour and a half.

That's pretty cool!. I can't believe that figured blank didn't blow apart since it's usually pretty brittle on pieces that small.

Yeah, Chad, I was thinking the same thing as joesdad. Do you have any sense of how likely the piece is to fracture under even a small amount of pressure or does it seem pretty stable?

Looks cool to me. I bet sycamore since it is softer has a little give to it and might not break as easy and other hardwoods...if it does break you can make another and she has more presents, she can't complain about that
