Default Stand for Ice Tub

It is too hot to be outside without cold drinks readily available. I built this to hold an old galvanized tub my mom had. It is over fifty years old and in great shape. It was just sitting in her garage so I decided to give her a late mother's day gift.As I have said before I am no master of fine woodworking but I am getting better with each thing I am building. So critic away cause I am here to learn.

Allthumbs27,
I think it is a very nice job, very sturdy, I bet it keeps the beverages really cold.
If I would change anything maybe 45 the top corners next time.

You cut a nice, perfectly fitting arch into the top to fit the tub. I recently cut some arches in PT pine for a pergola (you saw it) but found it difficult. I was using 2x wood for that, though, and ended up using a bandsaw for most of the cuts. What did you use?

I don't know what's in the bottom of the "cap catcher", but I'd be sure it could drain water. You might have a drain hole there already.

The stuff I've seen from you lately looks solid enough to park a truck on.

Nice work. I love functional projects, and that seems to greatly improve the function of the tub.

Now you just need to make a bigger one to put next to it for you to sit in and your set. Looks good!. Wood looks treated so that should help against the sweating that tub is sure to do.

45 edges are a good idea. I might try that next time. Rob, I did it the hard way. I used a jigsaw and went through 2 different designs for the top. Drilling the holes in the cap catcher will be done. ACP, I would have to buy a tub that would feed a herd of cattle for me to fit in. Thanks.

I think its a great project. You did well. My only recomendation would be to use finish nails and glue on the top rather then screws. Thats just a personal preference.

Looks plenty sturdy! I like the cap catcher, that's a nice touch! I'm with Brad and Red when do you want us all to show up?

A Guinness bottle cap opener - you could not have picked a better option. Though one of my confreres says that Guinness should never be served cold, only at room temperature. However, in my opinion - any Guinness is a good Guinness.

Nah just your basic " over the counter" wood. PT pine from lowe's.
4x4s,2x4s, and 1x6s and a bunch of screws. I dont really use nails a whole lot when I am building these "deck" type projects. I have never seen a screw work its way out over time so thats why I stick with em.
Bring the drinks and Ill supply the meats and we can drown our problems for at least a few hours.
