Default sapele headboard

So being that it's going to be another low dough Christmas around here, I decided to build a new headboard for the wife and I.

A friend has a nice stack of sapele sitting in a pile that he welcomed me to use, and I had a set of cherry raised panel doors just sitting in my basement collecting dust. I never thought I'd see myself spraying cherry black, but what the hell right? I thought the contrast came out pretty nice.

The job came out pretty good for only having a few days to work on it in between trying to get my regular work done. It's mostly dado and pocket screw assembly, and the project also put a new jig in the shop. I needed to build the jig in the pic to make the pyramid caps.

I think she'll be happy with it.

Rear view of the old cabinet doors that I trimmed to fit and biscuit joined together.

Jeez Joesdad, that is incredible. What a cool way to re-use the cabinet doors...I'd have never thought to paint them, but have to admit that it looks really cool against the sapele. I also like the boxed post design.

Makes me want to cut up the mission style bed I'm building and put it in the scrap pile.

Hey JD,
Looks great. I would have never thought of that design. Good way to recycle discarded wood. Very nice contrast.
