Default Oak hopechest

Here's a couple pics of an oak hopechest that I made for my sister a couple years back when she graduated from college. It is lined with aromatic cedar.

Hindsight is 20/20, but I have no idea why I used 4/4 stock for the lid. If I had it to do over again I'd definately use 6/4 or at least put a thickening detail on the edge to make it look beefier.

Some riftsawn plywood panels would have been nice too, as opposed to the plainsliced.

I think that it looks very nice. Most of the things I build I look back on and see something that I would do different if I did it over again.

Thekctermite, what is a "ripsawn" plywood panel?

Thanks GeorgeC. I appreciate it.

Not ripsawn...Riftsawn. Much straighter grain, like vertical grain lumber. Has to do with how the log is cut before being peeled into veneer. You don't see as much flat grain, and of course it costs more.

Very nice. I think we can all look back at projects and say "what was I thinking". I think the chest looks great and she must be proud to have it. Red
