Default Little things

I was just piddling in the shop Sunday and made a few things from scrap I had laying around to kill some time. I saw a set of machined aluminum dominoes at a buddies house and got to wondering if it would be any fun to make some wood ones. It was...but it did take longer than I thought. I had a couple short strips of cherry sapwood in the corner I had ripped of a board and saved for "something", I guess that something was dominoes. I drilled the pips and shoved my woodburner tip in the holes to blacken them. While I was messing with that I decided to make some (oversized for fun) hard maple dice too. The dominoes needed a box of course so I made one out of a little scrap of sycamore (it has no finish on it in the pictures, never got around to that yet).

And lastly a friend gave me a really good smelling candle so I spun out a holder for it real quick from cedar to match the table it is on. Hey, I used up a few scraps and killed a rainy Sunday afternoon

Those dice look loaded. That cedar candle holder is awesome. Love the swirl in the grain

Nice work Daren. Innovative use of scraps. Here is another idea someone had for scraps. Craftsmanship sells.

Didn't know they even made such a thing...I just used a small metal rule for a straight edge and to measure layout of the dots, center punched them with a finish nail and drill/burned them. (same high tech method for the dice)

Love the sycamore. Made a cane for my Dad out of it.

So, do you play domino's, or are they just ornamental?

I know a couple of the different game rules and have played in the past, I am giving these to my brother.

Daren, the dominoes look great! I had been thinking of making a Mah Jong set (it's a pretty popular game down here in Dixie) until I realized how many tiles one would have to make--152 for one set. I simply don't have that long an attention span!!!
