I just finished this display case today. It's for a customer who's close friend was recently killed over in Iraq. The Marine's family gave him his sword and scabbard so he asked me to build the case. He had ordered one from a catalog but was unhappy with the shoddy workmanship of it.

He said the "Made in China" sticker on the back told the story.

Everything is solid cherry, the inside back of the case has a foam-core insert wrapped in black velvet with two black square stock columns with pegs to hold the sword and scabbard, I sprang for the one inch beveled glass which was worth it.

It's a simple design, but I definitely got a pretty good feeling working on this one, I never did a job I wished I didn't have to take money for.

Default Nice looking joinery.

One mod you might consider in the future......extend the depth of the sides so that the back/bottom is recessed by just over ¾". Then you can provide a french cleat to hang the display on. The benefit is that the wall cleat can be mounted level and then your display case just hangs from it and noboby has to fool with those individual hangers.

Thanks...

I just did the "doh!" to my forehead. I kept saying to myself "This sucks you gotta see these hangers" I didn't have enough thickness in the back to recess those little keyhole hangers so I figured I'd go with these.
