Default Hair forks

Hey, I'm new here, but here are my first projects. I believe the wood is oak, but it came from a scrap box so I'm not really sure. They are finished with liseed oil, and when that has dried sufficiently I'll wax them up for a bit of sheen.
Comments & crits are welcome!

Welcome lmnop, we like to joke around here, but nice forks. I tried to make a wooden comb for my hair...it did not work out so well. I never could get it right to suit me.

So you cut it all off!? Man, you're hardcore.

Thanks for the welcome. This seems like a pretty congenial board. I think I'll poke around a little!

Hey and welcome to the forum. Those are some pretty cool looking hair forks. Almost evil in appearance. Excuse my ignorance, but what the heck are hair forks for. I've never heard of one. I like their shape and the rounding of the wood. Do you do this by hand?
Ken

Ken, the forks are used to keep my long hair in a bun or other style, eliminating the need to use bobby pins. Sticks (like chopsticks) can be used the same way.

I use a table saw, a band saw, a pad sander, files, and sandpaper. They take about 2-3 hours to make, but as my skill with the band saw gets better, I anticipate not needing to file and sand as much.

I decided to try shellac (amber/orange) for a finish. While I like the color & richness it adds, I don't really like the finish--I had a really hard time getting them very smooth.
