Default First box

here is the first box that I have made.... i plan on making many many more.... it is Oak with a Walnut top, and oak handle. I had some trouble getting the bottoms to sit in nicely. They are 1/4 oak and I cut a dado in all the sides, I had a slight alignment problem and the bottom was alittle warped.... but all in all it came out ok. It is about 3ish" high, and 8ish" long

I made 2 and gave one to my dad as a fathers day gift. My dad had given me the wood, which he got from my grandpa after he passed away about 8 years ago. My dad gave it to me as I got more involved in wood.

Nice Job! I love walnut. With the wood being from family members I am sure it makes it extra special.

Good lookin' box. I made a photo box a while back with a bottom like yours and had similar issues, but it also came out okay. The joinery on your corners looks nice and tight.

That looks really nice and I'll bet your dad was very happy to get it. Great use of wood that had been in the family!

Looks great!! I'm sure that your father loved it, especially knowing where the wood came from. That's 3 generations of wood owner there. Sentimental value is high on that one I'm sure.
