Default candle holder

hey there I just finished assembling this candle holder. I still need to finish it but I figured I would post it anyways. It is red oak with walnut legs. It was pretty easy and fun to make. the plans are out of wood mag. so i tried it and here it is. the biggest challenge was cutting a 1" x 1/8" rabbit.

I gotta ask, Just how did you manage to cut that 1" x 1/8" rabbet? I keep walking away from starting that project because I can't wrap my head around how to do that...

hey there tom thanks for the comment. I think I am going to finish it with shellac. I might do a semi gloss poly though. I think shellac cause I have a couple of bigger projects I have to get done and not that much time. DBHOST to answer your question I cut the 1" rabbit with the table saw. I just set the blade to an 1/8" high and just keep moving the fence till you get to the end. Use a clamp to hold the piece. it is really small pieces so dont try it without a clamp. I was pretty stumped on that to then I just went to the table saw and there it is. the plans dont tell you this and I learned the hard way when doing the pieces with the 1" rabbit do the round overs first then the rabbit. I did it the other way first and had to scrap those pieces. it was a fun project and you should definitely try it. cant wait to see them. if you have any questions feel free to ask. Ill try to help. talk to you guys soon.

Dominic,
Looks nice, make sure you post some pics after you finish it. What kind of candles does it hold, the little tea candles?

Default Cutting the rabbet

You can also make this cut by using a sacrificial fence and use a 1/8 cerf blade,Just raise the blade up 1"use a feather board to hold it in place (stand the board on edge) . It can now be done with one pass.

Did you use your hands or make some jig to push this throught the blade as it is only 1 1/2" and you are cutting a depth of 1"?

You can make custom push block or use a rubber push block like the one from your joiner .
