I resurfaced a guitar hero controller with a 1/8" piece of red oak. Came out really nice but doesn't even compare to Bud's guitar. Beautiful stuff.

Ok
.
After sanding the binding channel with tiny sliver's of wood with abrasive's attached and bending and rebending the binding strip's . I boldly lurched into action and did this :
Slathered glue , wiped ,and taped . and slathered . and taped . After an hour of waiting ...pulled off the tape VERY carefully to prevent tearout on the fickle spruce .. The maple is much more durable ..
And that's the half of it . Kind of . But fun , in a meticulous kind of slathering and taping way .
Wed. , with luck , more .

You could use a bunch of rubber bands too.

Wow! I've been looking at the kits in the Griz catalog as a place to start but looking at this makes me think I could be opening Pandora's box. Great work.

That is great, A bit too technical for me. If you can't use a claw hammer I don't build it. j/t

To lay out the neck joint I made these templates for layout .
I also transferred the angle of the top& side to the neck blank using an angle gauge . (not shown)
I then made some cuts . Using the pull saw .
The rest consisted of a lot of chisel work , using 1/2 , 1/4 & 1/8 bench chisels .
There is still some clean up and fitting that will be done after cutting the dovetail in the neck blank . The depth get's shallower in the mortise which will I will correct with a stopped drill to get a even depth .I tried to cut inside the lines for the mortise , & will do the opposite for the dovetail .

Sure is coming along nicely, that looks like a lot of work. I'll bet you have hours wrapped up in this project. I can't wait to see the final product. That thing is going to be awesome.

Again, I can only say "fantastic". Love the way the blue teddy bear "blanky" sets off the woodgrain.
I bet you other guys missed that detail.
Great job Bud.

Then I got started on the neck lams.
Bandsawed 4 pcs 6"x3/4 flatsawn hard maple and added a slice of mahogany . P10100r13.jpg
Glued 'em up . P1010092.jpg
Then bandsawed them to the layout line .
Please forgive the messy shop .

Hey Bud, did you get that heat bender at Stewart-Mcdonald? I was going to make one just for ****s and giggles but I'd like to see one to get an idea as to what is involved. perhap it's cheaper to buy one?

I built the bending iron from a electric BBQ starter , all-thread and stainless pipe . I spent less than 50.00$ for that and the rheostat all told . There are many variations scattered all over the net , electric and propane heated . Next guitar I'll go with a Fox style heated form for more uniform sides .
These were not quite symmetrical .

Default More sawing and chopping...

More work on the neck joint.
It took some carving with the chisel , but its starting to take shape .
