Default What fence

I've been making due with an Old Delta tilt table, saw, holding out hope that a Delta Uni saw will fall from the sky and land in my back yard, Or someone will sell me one for under $300. Since it appears neither one of these is going to happen any time soon. I was able to pick this saw up for a great deal.

I've been told except for the fence it is almost as good as a uni saw. The fence rails are missing anyway so I won't be able to give an opinion on how good it might have been. So what I'd like is an opinion on if this saw is worth spending some good money to buy a nice aftermarket fence, and if so what a good fence that's not going to cost me an arm and a leg? Thanks for any input.

The Delta T2 is a steel t-square style "Biese Lite", and at $150 is quite a bargain....check Lowes or Amazon. The Vega is also excellent at closer to $250. Grizzly sells the Shop Fox Aluma Classic for ~ $210 plus s/h...nice fence but s/h takes some appeal out of it. The Biese is excellent if you can find a good deal.

Bigredc I have a bias opinion about that saw or any other saw that age. I love them. I my self would cross a 6 lane interstate to pick up an old tool. They are well built, made of Steel, Solid as a rock. Not like these new fancy saws with all there bells and whisles. You can take that saw for almost no money and replace the bearings and have a saw thats good for another 50 years. But thats MY opinion. I would put a shorter drive belt on it. That one on it now has the motor hanging down to low and puts a lot of strain on the bearings and shafts in the motor and saw.

Switch to one of the Link type belts... Either the "power Twist" or HF brand both get good reviews.

I have an OLD Biesemeyer I'm cleaning up for use on a Delta 36-979 TS. The replacement parts showed up last night and (of course) require modification to the fence itself to get them to work as the fence itself might be an original.

I have the 9" version of that saw and it's built every bit as good as the 10" that I bought new in 1995. I think once you get it dialed in and up and running with a good fence like the Delta T2 and a Fenner Drives PowerTwist link belt as mentioned you will find that it's a great saw, probably all you'll ever need unless you open a fulltime cabinet shop. Congradulations on the find, I noticed that it has a newer Delta motor, the saw should last you a very long time if you take care of it. If your interested in good dust collection for the saw and a better location for the power switch I can help you with that if your fairly mechanically inclined. A Delta 50-345 universal mobile base would be a nice addition also.

I'm like you handyman. I love old machines. I've only been collecting them for a short while but I've been bitten bad by the old machine bug. I'm sure you know about OWWM web site. I wanted to ask you guys on this site about the fence because the guys over at OWWM would have me putting and old Jetlock on it. Don't get me wrong I think the Jetlock is a good fence I have one on a deferent machine, but I was thinking for this saw I wanted something new. The T2 sounds like the hot set up to me. If I can get Lowes to order it for me I might be able to save on shipping. I will get the linkbelt also. I didn't realize it was sitting to low. I have a base that my old tilt table is sitting on, I'll probably mount this saw to it and maybe if It's doable mount the motor under the saw and do DC out of the back. I know now it's worth getting started. Thanks for the input

I Don`t think you can mount the motor under the saw! Unless all you need it for is straight ripping AND DADOING. Rick

The T-2 will bolt right up. Here's mine on an older model10. I replaced the wings with dewalt steel ones and added a power plug. Also moved the factory toggle up under the rail. Good old saws.....

I see what you mean about mounting the motor under. The Old Delta I have now is a tilt table not arbor, that's why the motor can go under on it. I also like the solid extensions. Did you find them used or are they something you can buy new? The saw looks good. I can't wait to get mine all set up.

I had the wings squirreled away in the shop, after I upgraded my dewalt to cast iron wings. Finally had a good use for 'em..... Don

Huntsman22 I also added a receptacle on the front of my TS. After making a cut with the saw I sometimes use the TS top as a sanding or router station. The plug come in real handy.

Yep, Mine is put on for the same reason. On my big saw, I added a longer ext. cord, along with a switch outlet and a 4-way box. I can plug in the jigsaw, skilsaw, router and sander and only have one cord on the floor to trip over.....
