Never tried. But I seem to remember that there was an outfit that did offer a way for a consumer to reglue belts. It obviously has to be done carefully, making sure that it is straight, or it won't track. Have to have a glue that is heat resistant. I'd look online for such.

I have tried to reglue a belt and found I could not get the tracking set properly. I was sure every thing looked straight but finally ended up buying a new belt, and cutting the old belt for use with my sanding block.

I use old belts for grips on jigs (great non slip surface) or just on the hand sanding block.

Maybe of some help!

I have never tried to reglue a sanding belt, but I have learned one thing about them. You have to keep them in a dry environment. If you store them in an area that has high humidity your belt failure rate will go way up. Maybe the better belts have water proof glue. Mine were Sears/Craftsman.

Question need help repairing new sanding belts

I am having problems with my 4"x24" sanding belts separating at the glue seam. My Milwaukee belts are fine but all of my Bosch belts come apart within a few seconds of starting the 1273DVS sander. This is a big problem for me because I have a lot of these belts and they are not working.

Current Inventory:
T1700 (36 grit) – 5 boxes
T1703 (60 grit) – 5 boxes
T1705 (100 grit) – 5 boxes

Each box contains 10 belts so I have at least 150 defective belts. The inside of the belts say “Made in West Germany”. I admit that I have had the belts for a while but there is no expiration or "use by" date on the boxes. I have requested that Bosch replace the belts but have not heard back from them yet.

Does anyone know of a glue or tape that will work for this repair?

I was looking for an means to make my own belts from roll abrasives, which you can get pretty cheap surplus. No good answers, however. I actually think the factories use a hot melt adhesive, but I'm not certain. The link from basser425 https://commerce.riverweb.com:8003/shop.html
is a place to buy them at a "reasonable' price he says. There is a flexible fabric joining strip as well to deal with. It may require high heat and pressure to last and be effective. bill

I did hear back from Bosch today, and they said to ship all (150) of my belts to them in New Jersey and they will consider replacing them. They did say there is a shelf life for belts but did not say what it is after I pointed out that neithter their catalog nor the boxes mentioned any dates at all. If I spend $30 - $40 shipping the belts to them, I will be very upset if they do not replace them.

I think it is very likely that your sanding belts have been in a damp or very humid environment at some time. I had a bunch of Craftsman belts that seperated and Sears wouldn't replace them. Nowhere does it say they have to be stored in a totally dry environment.
I hope you have better luck with Bosch.

If Bosch replaces those belts I will be stunned. West Germany hasn't existed since the early 90s. You really shouldn't have any expectation that they will replace consumables that are at the very least 17 years old...
