Ridged 6" Jointer. Good deal? - Woodworking Talk

I found one of these listed on craigs list for $250.

Its 2 years old and has a new link belt on it.

If I’m able to get it does that sound like a good deal? I’m not familiar with this jointer but have been looking at a few others and this one much more inline with what I can spend.

Also is there anything I should watch for or keep in mind when looking at a used jointer.

I think that's the same one HD sells. I'd want to know how much a new one is.

$250 isn't a great price for that jointer but it's a fair price if it's in like new condition. If there's any rust at all on the table then I wouldn't pay that much mainly because your time to clean it up is worth something.

Sounds pretty reasonable to me if in good condition.

I talked to him last night. From the picture I saw and talking to him it sounds like every things in good shape. The guys only getting rid of this one to get a bigger model plus he’s going to be in the area so he can bring it to me for no extra charge.

The only problem is that its currently wired for 240 so I’ll have to rewire it to use in my shop for now. (I still haven’t got my the shop wired up.)

when you get there check out the saw's surroundings. If he has a dumpy shop like mine you may be able to get him down. All he can say is no. Now on the 220 issue. A lot of saws and what not can be wired for 110. Being as you haven't wired it yet don't let that slow you down.

Wiring from 220v to 110v is literally a 5 minute task...the schematic is on the back cover of the junction box....just did exactly that on Craftsman 22124 yesterday. You might need to add a new 110v plug if the original is MIA.

I got it.

Not too much in the line of rust on it. Just a little bit up in the inside of the cabinet. The tables are even alined.
I played around with it a little and using the guide in the book I rewired it and added a new plug and everything runs fine.

Looks like I'm good to go.
