Default Planer and Jointer

Hey folks.........I'm wondering if anyone might share some experience with Ridgid model JP0610 Joiner and model R4330 Planer. I'm researching right now and any feedback would be greatly appreciated, both pro and con.

Ray...

I don't personally own either of those tools, but if you check out the Ridgid Forum, there are plenty of owners of both of those tools that are quite happy with them... If space wasn't an issue I would have gone for that jointer instead of my Sunhill benchtop job...

I like the R4330 as well. If my Ryobi AP1301 were to croak, I would go grab one of those in a hot second... The TP1300LS is another model well worth consideration... I believe the Home Depot on I-45 @ Farm Road 646 in League City almost down to Dickinson has a couple of those... I am sure they have the jointers...

Are you a member of the Houston Woodworkers Club? I have been meaning to drop in on them to see what they are all about, but wonder if it is worth it to drive up from the south side or not...

I do own the R4330 and would highly recommend it even though some say it's worthless without a cutterhead lock. It is designed to not need a lock and it works very, very well. Snipe is not an issue with the tables leveled correctly unless you are planing over 1/16" at a time. I usually only go 1/32" and get great results.
Dust collection, with a 4" hose is almost perfect. And, after using this planer almost weekly for over a year, (2 to 3000' of oak?) everything, including the knives, is still in excellent condition.
I wouldn't hesitate a minute on this planer.
Can't say about the jointer though since I do not/ have not used that one.

Thanks a bunch for the feedback. It sounds like this would be a great choice.

I really appreciate the feedback. I'm just researching right now but hope to make a decision soon. I am not currently a member of the Houston Woodworkers Club. Let me know if you decide to go.
Thanks,
Ray M.

I have the JP0610 and am very happy with it. Plenty of power for the hardwoods I've used it on so far (though no hickory yet...) And despite what the instruction manual says, I was able to put it together by myself. It's heavy, but not THAT heavy. It also cut perfectly out of the box without any blade adjustments.
