Default New Jointer Arives-Great Service from Grizzly

I ordered a new G0609 jointer from Grizzly when I got back to the office from lunch on Monday. (approx. 12:30) Tuesday when I returned from lunch about 1:15 I called Grizzly and got a tracking number for the shipment. I called UPS Freight to see when it would get to Morrisville, NC. The lady told me it got there at 6:30 that morning. I could not believe it. I hooked a utility trailer to my truck and went to the terminal to pick it up. A little before 3:00 I was back with it. I spent most of the rest of the day trying to figure out how to get it off of the trailer and into my wood shop.

I got the largest electrical helper we have to follow me home and help get it off or the trailer. We rigged one end of a cable hoist to a piece of tube steel in the shop and the other end to the shipping skid. We were able to slide it into the shop in just a short time. We stripped the plywood off of the skid. The jointer was in good shape. I removed all access covers and inspected inside. All was well. I removed the manual, parts and tools from inside the machine then set it off of the skid on to the floor with the help of a large electrical helper. It took about 1 hr. 45 min. to clean it up, assemble it, check the bed and blades with a straight edge and put wax on the bed and fence. This morning I hurt in places I forgot I had. I am getting too old for unloading this kind of machine without a lift.

Today I double checked everything, adjusted the fence and tested it on a 4' piece of 2X10 oak that was cupped and had a slight twist. It woked great on this very limited test. I did not even have to adjust the blades. I can't wait to give it a real workout. That will probably be a few days away.

I will post a pic. soon.

Eugene

Congrats, Eugene! You'll get a lot of use/enjoyment out of that jointer. And I doubt that you'll ever be dissapointed with Grizzly. I didn't look up the G0609 but from the sound of your post it must be a big sucker. I hope you get it on a mobile base.

And, welcome to the forum.

GRIZ-ZLY!!!
GRIZ-ZLY!!!
GRIZ-ZLY!!!
GRIZ-ZLY!!!

If you are at the Grizzly store here in Springfield, you might be impressed with their logistics. They have a UPS trailer at their dock all the time. If you are there to purchase something, they put it in the computer, you go to the warehouse window, and a guy brings it to you. I snuck a peak at the system and when you order online or by phone, the same thing happens, only it automatically prints a UPS label, sends UPS the particulars, and the order comes together and goes into the UPS trailer. As soon as that trailer is almost full, they contact UPS who sends a truck to pick it up. Basically, if you time it right, you could finish up your online order and the truck is pulling out of the Grizzly lot before you can log out of your computer... (I know... a stretch, but danged if I don't think it happens...)

I was told a couple of years ago that Grizzly benchmarked FedEx and UPS on some logistics.

I'm impressed with your story, Eugene. And yes, you will enjoy that piece of equipment for a long time...

Just a folow up and pic of the G0609. I failed to mention in my previous post that this is the third machine I have bought from Griz. The other two machines were sanders. I got good service on the other orders as well. This time was the best yet.

I checked everything again this evening. I did not like the way the fence stop worked for the 90 degree setting so I took it off and made a minor modification to allow for easier more accurate positioning of the fence. All I had to do was grind a little off of a bushing where the stop bolts to the fence support. All I can think of that I need is a 5" to 4" adapter for the dust collector and it should be ready for a serious test drive and a review. Here is a pic.

HOLY COW!!!, EUGENE!!! that thing is sweet! Is that it's final resting place? You may have to get your helper back if you want to get it on a mobile base. Congrats., I'm envious!

Yeah Dude, that thing is sweet, I wish I even had a 8" jointer much less a 12". Very nice, I assume when you mentioned blades you got the regular 4 blade setup? Envious here for sure................

Eugene: loved your story. I agree completely with the impression you got from Grizzly. Only difference is, I was there, and loaded something like 3 pallets and 17 cartons onto my utility trailer. After a 15 hour day, there we stood on the driveway, the whole fam-damily, scratching our heads wondering how we were going to get the d/c pallet and the cabinet saw pallet off the trailer and into the garage for the night. Did I mention it was midnight?

So, my smart-alleck little 12 year old, he says, "it's too bad we werent Egyptians building a pyramid. We could roll the boxes off on logs...."

15 minutes later, we had the aluminum ramps that I use for the snow thrower and tiller resting on the back of the trailer, and I had disassembled five of my 4-ft. pipe clamps, and we were carefully rolling the 470-pound cabinet saw into the garage. Genious, I tell you, the boy is just like his father!!

good luck with the jointer.
