Default new 18" band saw

I just picked up this band saw. The guy said it's a Jet.
I believe him. But I can't fine any identification marks on it. The motor says 1989 with the normal motor stuff. I got a good deal. I'd like to know the model # for future reference.

No clue. But how many roll a way chests do you have there? I used to work in a mechanics shop that had less than that!

Looks like that saw was well cared for. And I think the price you quoted sounds like a pretty fair deal, Good for you. Did it come with a fence? As to what make, sort of "looks" like a jet, but so many were similar, hard to know, isn't it? maybe someone at Jet might be able to tell you where to look for a SN?

I think it's this one. I'm kind of disappointed I was hoping it was a jet I was getting a good deal. As it turns out I probably paid what it's worth. It didn't come with a fence. Any ideas short of buying an aftermarket on building a fence. http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INPDFF?PMPAGE=594&PARTPG=INLMK3&PMITEM=199-9090

Well, honestly I rarely use the fence that came with mine. I usually just clamp a taller wooden fence to the table. Especially re-sawing something, I want a taller fence, and not a long one. Secondly I have a simple wood block, maybe 3" by 5" high, but 18" long, and I placed some rare earth magnets on the bottom and it sticks VERY well. And you can adjust it slightly if the blade is not tracking just right. Has worked well for me. Yes, I haven't seen much Enco around, but they have been there for years. Look at it this way, if it runs well enough, (2 hp is plenty of power), doesn't shake or vibrate, tracks ok, then you have a good serviceable saw, at a good price.

Ye ha. After trying to jerry rig a fence and thinking this saw was crap, I finally broke down and bought a Krag band saw fence. Wala. It cut great. The fence was on sale for $107 and they give you the re-saw guide for free. It's like $18 normally. Man I feel much better. Now I can get at that 8/4 cherry.
