Default Makita LS1O13 SCMS help

I'm new here, hoping to find someone able to send/post a photo of the underside of their Makita LS1O13. I'm a recent victim of a burglary, lost my old, old, makita chop saw and bought a display model LS1013L at Home Depot to replace my stolen antique. The new saw was stripped of various small parts during its life on the rack so they sold it to me for $200.00 without them. I ordered all the items I could determine were gone from ToolBarn for about $80.00, but I've had no experience with this model, and I'm unsure I can assemble it correctly so that the slider lock works with just the exploded Makita diagram I downloaded for reference. I'm hoping I can persuade someone with one of these saws and a digital camera to photograph the underside of their saw and post or email a photo to me. Specifically, I'm interested in the "Lock Lever" (#152 in the parts diagram - it looks like the crank for starting an old model T you see in silent movies). I think this locks the rotation of the cut angle adjustment. I have a long coil spring that slips over its shaft, but don't know in exactly what manner/order. The inner knob/assembly (#180 in the parts diagram) that I believe locks the slider is also a bit of a mystery. It doesn't seem to function without the lever and its accompanying parts (or some other missing items?) in place. The blade was also lost, and due to my limited experience with sliding saws, I'm not sure how important it is to have a dedicated low-tooth-angle sliding saw blade. I guess these limit surface tear-out on the top of sliding cuts?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer,

Mike

How new of a saw is this? I have the new Makita 12" with the lazer and the flourescent work light. I am not sure if it is compatible but it does have the lever lock I guess I am not sure what the model number is for sure. If this is some help to you let me know.

Ohhh good luck, I had TWO of those saws fall apart within a month of use. I really mean fall apart, both of the saws heads, everything up from where it attaches to the rails, fell off. Took the second one back, got my $$$ back, bought a Bosch 12" SCMS and a couple new Matsush!ta blades and off I went. Now if only the Bosch would fall apart, I could get a Kapex.

All I can tell you is I had no luck with them, Makita's air compressors sure are nice though.

Yow! Maybe that's why this display model had so many missing parts. I've heard mixed reviews of this saw, some seem to love it, and others were complaining about blade wobble. I bought a Craftsman 10" SCMS for a very reasonable $210, but the slider had a very rough ride through its travel. It was actually great in many other respects. Took it back. The Makita sells complete for about $300 more here (complete and in the box). The Makita tools I've owned have been top of the line in the past. Can't use one of those giant 12" saws, this one is small and light, and will fit easily amongst all the other stuff going to the jobsite in my little Mazda.

It's a new saw Steve, but it's a 10" and may be somewhat different from your 12", I don't know. Aside from the lights/lasers, I believe the Three 10" models are not significantly different in their basic construction.
