Default Which Joiner... jointer...

Sorry for the repost... I should have posted here first, but didnt see this section at first.

I have a Home Depot gift card that I would like to buy Jointer with.

I'm having trouble deciding between these 2

http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...9 0401+501489

and

http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...9 0401+501489

Which would you choose if you take price out of the decision making process? Looks like the jet is less powerfull...

What do you think?

In this case, I think the Ridgid has some advantages, but either should be fine. In addition to being less expensive, it also has a 1hp motor vs 3/4hp on the Jet.

Default Leave the Big Box

I would try going to your local woodworking supply store and see what help and expert advise they can give over the big box.

I have a Ridgid jointer and could not be happier. I have no experience with the Jet model and it could be OK too. But one thing I have found with the Ridgid tool is that any questions or help needed, they do a great job helping - but through Ridgid and not Home Depot - they know very little about the products that they sell, and its getting worse.

Go take a look at the review I wrote on the Ridgid unit in this site's tool-review section.

I wish I could, but I spent all of this year's allowance on tools. No cash left for a digital camera. Hell, no cash left for a decent computer, either.
