Default I have a Craftsman Miter Saw.. Tody I was..

Doing the angle cuts on Momm'as Wishing Well. The angle is 30Deg. However it does not lock in on 30. it does lock in at 31.? Don't remember the dec.. Thats no big deal.
It does lock in on 45 and a couple others? It did not fit as I thought it would. Just for giggles and grins I'm going to cut one tomorrow on the 31 deg and see what happes.
Anyone here have any suggestions?

I don't think much of the newer generation that craftsman is putting out as far as power tools. There may be an adjustment underneath the saw.

First check and see that you get a true 90 degree cut. Check it with a good square. If it's off then you'll need to make adjustments on your saw. If it checks out ok, then the wood is creeping on your miter cuts because of the combination of vibration, blade push, and possibly a dull blade. Are you clamping, or hand holding the stock? Hope this gives you some help. Let us know what the outcome is. (If you're not sure how to check your square, ask)

Are you questioning why the saw does not lock at the 30 deg position?

All saws are only made to lock at commonly used angles/positions. I have never seen one that locks at 30 deg.

To cut at other angles you have to manually set that position and then tighten the saw. It usually takes a little work to get that angle just correct.

George makes a really good point about the detents for common angles.

Even the Ryobi made Craftsman will benefit from good setup and adjustment. Any brand will need that to be accurate. Also be sure you have a decent blade.

Check the needle that points to 31 degrees. Is it adjusable? It really may be at 30 degrees just pointing to 31.
