Default Home made table saw.

My Granddad was not rich, and was very tight
with his money.

Never owned a power drill. Had a foot operated drill
press. Hand planes and hand saws.

Some time in the early '50's he bought a power saw.

Some time in during the first year he had it, he made
a table that it laid in upside down with the base plate
flush with the table top. It had a metal ruler on each
end to line up the fence, a 2x4 with C;clamps. It
had a miter grove and a home made miter gauge.

He made some beautiful furniture with this home
made contraption.

It was made of scraps I am sure, he used lumber
from the depot where he worked for most of his
projects. Old crates and pallets.

Any way, I want to recreate the saw as the original
was lost and no one knows where or when. I think
my aunt put it in the yard sale, not knowing what it
was.

I want to do it in oak as I have a lot of short pieces
that I salvaged from the mill.

I have vivid memory's of the saw and could do a
rough drawing.

I also was thinking of making plate so it would double
as a router table?

It will be about 2' by 3'. And be a table top unit.
I would like your thoughts and suggestions on this
project.

BTW, the first thing he did with it was cut off his
middle finger.

My suggestion is I don't think you ought to copy his first "project"

I think he reached under to tighten the adjustment
nut and got his finger in the blade. His old saw did
not have the blade guard. I don't think he bought
it new, so no telling how old it was.
