Default Grizzly Jointer

I am new to the site and am trying to find my way around, but right now I am seriously considering purchasing an 8" Grizzly jointer (GO490X) and would welcome any advice or comments.

When I figure out how this is all done I'll post some pictures of some of my projects.

Hey Flint: welcome aboard.

I don't have a Grizzly jointer yet...I'll be heading to Springfield, MO next week to make my big purchases for my new shop.

My jointer will be the G1182ZHW. I think it's one heckuva deal for the money. I'm sold on the handwheel table adjustment. What I'm wondering is this---is a parallelogram cutter head worth the extra money? Almost $800 for the model you quoted....looks like a great machine, no doubt. What made you go towards the higher end? Do you do a lot of production runs? Semi pro, professional?

Please don't take my asking as second guessing your decision...I'm only wondering if I'm missing something and should I be considering a larger model?

thanks and good luck,
smitty

Smitty,

Thanks for the reply. I have been doing woodworking all thru my adult life. Never had time or the money to be very serious about it. Through the years I have bought smaller and cheaper tools that I later regreted. I never seem to know how to buy what is adequate. I always go below the line or above. It is cheaper for me to go above the line and buy once.

It seems like the more I learn about Grizzly the more I am impressed.
Gotta whole shop of non-Grizzly tools but I am definitively looking to them for my next purchases.
(The catalog should include drool paper), it's free if you ask them (online) and it's my new favorite reading material.
