Default Drill Press

I'm just looking for opinions on a drill press. I'm looking to purchase my first and hopefully last one. I have about $225.00 to spend on one but I don't have any clue about drill presses really. I would like to get a floor model if it's in the price range. Anyone have any suggestions? I don't have a specific need for one just for general purposes.

First, let me thank you for the job you do!!

In another forum, I read that a DP with a laser is the way to go. Most said that they, at first, thought the laser was just a gimmick but, after using it, really liked it. Delta was the one they all liked. It's electronically variable speed, too. I have a 12 speed bench top (not Delta) and changing the belts to change speeds is a hassle.

Right now I'm looking at 4 different DP's.

Delta DP300L Bench top model w/ laser
Shopfox W1669 Benchtop
Rikon 30-210 15" Floor model
Rikon 30-140 34" radial head benchtop.

I can't find Any Info on the Rikon 30-210 model on Rikon's website and it has me a bit concerned. Right now I'm leaning towards the Rikon 30-140 Radial DP. Anyone have anythoughts on it? Also, how much HP does a DP really need? I will only be using it for woodworking so I wouldn't think I would need the bigger more expesive motors

In my experience, the HP required is dictated by 2 considerations. The size of the bit and the material. Mine is a 1/3 HP and it's belt driven. The belt slips before the motor has a chance to bog down.
Just curious...what applications do you have in mind for a radial head?

I really don't have a specific need forthe radial head but I do like having the option of having it if needed in the future. Plus the radial head DP's are basically around the same price as the standard DP's and as far as over-all quality, they rank around the upper middle of the road. This is just stuff I have read today while trying to do a little homework before purchasing one.
