Default Delta Planer $50 - Good Deal?

I have been slowly acquiring shop tools. I monitor craigslist and when steal comes along I jump on it. I have been waiting for a planer and this one just came through.

http://greensboro.craigslist.org/tls/833756466.html

I don’t know much about the different machines. Any advice on whether or not to purchase this planer?

Thanks,

David

If it works, grab it before someone else does.

Mind you, for argument sake let's say that is a 15 year old planer. You may have to replace the knives, and possibly the belt IF that model is belt driven and not direct drive, or chain drive...

Well worth the $$ for sure...

Yep... I keep waiting for a bargain like that on the Craigslist here... If it runs and doesn't look warped or damaged, get it before it's too late... But offer him $40 first... LOL

$50 would have been a steal I believe. I have been looking for a planer too. Have seen two delta 22-540. one was $150 and sold fairly quick (at least before I got a chance to see it) the other was $200 at a garage sale last week. I passed on it though because I thought that was a little high. Biggest problem I have heard from a few folks with these is they produce bad sniping when running your boards through. If I understand correctly some of the newer portables have improved in this area. Good luck in your search.
